So a week or two ago I had an Axumin PET scan that showed mets on my lower back and iliac lymph nodes.

Well, yesterday I had an MRI to confirm the mets.

Not there, no sign of metastases.

No METS baby!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!! NO METS!!!

Time to break out the scotch, and have maybe a double or two.

That is all, carry on with your day now.

Excellent news. Tell me the medical answer if you know. How does a met show on an Axumin scan but not on an MRI? In my thinking, the Axumin is a more "powerful" scan than the MRI. But I'm just a ****without a prostate so what do I know? I will celebrate for you this weekend at Handel's Ice Cream.

That was my thought to, but according to my Onco the Axumin has around 10-12% false positives.
Beyond that I have no clue. I'm just glad I don't have to have radiation yet.

.....as I wait for the call to schedule my own upcoming Axumin PET scan, I cannot but feel a little queasy about the results either way now. :queasy:

Would you be willing to ask your Onco or Radiologist a question.
I've had others on different forums express that Axium scan should rule out and having a negative MRI shouldn't matter. Some of those folks I trust greatly.
So. now I'm a bit confused and wondering if I should seek a different Onco.

As I understand it your PSA has been rising and is most recently 1.4 . If this is so then it seems to me that cancer is lurking somewhere. Not my field but I'd say the MRI missed small areas that were seen by Axumin. The 1.4 is coming from somewhere. I wish it were not so.

Thanks! That is my understanding also.
If I were to GUESS, it's all over my body, probably lymph nodes, just in minute quantities. In addition to my lower spine.

You might be right, Aleph that it is all over your body but don't give up on the real possibility of oligo-metastasis: just one to three metastatic areas that each can be hammered with HT and RT. Hope for long remissions, even cure in metastatic disease! It used to be thought that the situation was hopeless once a person had even one met. The theory was if you see one there are many. But that is not always true. I am still hoping that my latest relapse and its treatment can result in a cure. Maybe not but I gave it a shot. As somebody recently posted on this forum: "I am the storm!"
