SpaceOAR does add to the medical bill of course...
I have read that its usefulness depends, among others, on the radiation instrument and method used.
Some methods are so advanced that damage to the rectum due to 'excess' radiation is minimal, I was told by an SBRT specialist.
SpaceOAR wasn't available when I was treated, but in retrospect, the use of this material might have minimized the radiation proctitis that I did develop. The latter resolved after a minor procedure and might have gone away by itself as well, I was told.
