So I'm 3 week post da Vinci prostatectomy and I don't know how to feel about
my recovery progress. I estimate that I have >90% control over the volume of urine I produce. Meaning, I can hold it in and I leak less than 10% into my pad (usually when sneezing, coughing, laughing and, sometimes, standing).
Do you think I'm ahead of the recovery curve?

The distribution of results varies widely...in other words, not many men follow exactly the same post-RP urinary recovery path. But that being said, I'd say that your recovery results are completely unsurprising and is "on-track;" neither ahead nor behind.

You're doing fine. It can take weeks/months to fully recover.
Hang in there, someday this will just be a bad memory.

Time to relax and recover. You should have steady improvement. Some men do Kegels. I never did and still recovered just fine.

As I recall, that's about
where I was at 3 weeks (and I went back to work). It takes time, and there will be backwards steps from time to time. Any action on the ED front?

Thank you for all of your replies.
In regards to ED; I've had about
a half dozen morning erections (more than pre-surgery). The erections are 'mild' (i.e. chubby's) and half occurred before I started taking Cialis.

Based on that, you're well on your way to a trouble free future. Let us know what your path report said, and what your PSA is at 12 weeks.

90 percent control at 3 weeks post-RP? Morning wood? You're ahead.

It sounds like you are doing great. Continence takes time -- somewhere between a few months and a year is typical but some guys are dry when the catheter comes out and some never quite get there. Follow your doctors instructions on Kegels -- there is such a thing as too many; some guys recover slowly because they get over-eager and do too many. If you are still leaking at three months you can talk to your doctor about
some sort of physical therapy.
As for the ED you're well ahead of the curve on that one but one thing you should know is that sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. If you lose that morning chubby in a few months don't let it throw you. That's something else to talk to discuss with your doctor ... about
a month from now.

Nine responses, I think, and total agreement; wow!

Sounds to me like you are doing well. At 3 weeks I was about
ready to ditch the pads but not quite there. It gets better over time - at six months a bit of leakage when lifting a fifty pound load, and at 9 months nothing. I did the kegles post surgery for a few weeks and think that helped. And you got some chubby's? Yes - you are doing well.

You are doing very well, and are way ahead of where I was at 3 weeks. It looks like you are winning in two elements of the "trifecta." Most important, however, is the third, the psa reading at three months or so. Good luck!
