My update : finished SRT 1 week ago( had 33 sessions, VMAT rapid Arc, prostate bed + pelvic LN)
It was not easy choice, but I opted for ADT + SRT
Had my 3 month Lupron shot in late May and started SRT 1 month after
Overall, SRT was not bad at all - had no major side effects so far. No diarrhea, no big time problems with urination.
After one week of RT it became routine to keep bladder optimally filled. I did feel more tiered during RT, but it was manageable. I'd take 1 hr nap during daytime and it helped.
Now about
ADT - this is a different story. 2 major problems - hot flashes and muscle atrophy. I did not gain any weight ( in fact, lost 3 lbs) - it was not easy as I had to increase my daily physical activity.
Hot flashes are annoying ( to say it polite), as result I drink much more water and of course urinate more.
However if I need to , i can hold urine for long time ( during driving and long bike rides)
Below you can find my "routine" during SRT
1- daily biking ( about
12 miles, including daily trips to RT by bike) + basketball playing about
45 mins + about
45 mins to 1 hr in gym ( weights, treadmill)
2 - cut down on carbs
3- I dont know if it helped at all, but I increased consumption of fermented food - kombucha, kim chi, sauerkraut.
Now, when SRT is over, i pretty much maintain the same level of physical activity +resumed swimming ( about
1 mile daily ) . RO told me not to swim during SRT as it may cause dry skin in radiated area.
I am happy RT is over. And debating if I should got for second Lupron shot ...I know I should have 6 month of ADT and likely will go ahead with 2nd injection....... but gosh, it makes my life miserable.
Hope my short report helps someone.
