Another personal example:
In April of 2016, my 88 yr old mother developed an intestinal blockage. The surgeon declared the repair a success (she no longer had the blockage, and intestinal function did come back). However, in her 33 days in Crit Care, she developed pneumonia and died in June. I do not see anything in there that spells success.
I think the side effects of out treatments are way underestimated for this reason.... surgeons are pretty well self-reporting. I doubt my own secondary issues that arose from surgery and urethroplasty op ever got recorded into the stats.
