Update and hopefully encouragement for newly diagnosed G9's

Hello All,

I wanted to check in with an update on my status which will, hopefully, provide some encouragement for those recently encountering an advanced/G9 diagnosis.

I was diagnosed in the summer of 2016 as a G9. The cancer had already spread to a pelvic lymph node at diagnosis. I can still vividly see the look on my doctors faces as they gave me worse and worse news with each initial test result. Today, three years later, I got my latest test results. My PSA remains undetectable, and my testosterone continues to climb higher since I got off ADT in October 2018. I'm feeling good and back to "normal life". I'm still thanking God every day for my situation, and always do and will probably always get some anxiety at PSA test time, but three years ago, I was truly worried that I would be gone by now.

So, all brothers here, please have a drink with me today to celebrate, and newly diagnosed guys, I really hope that my success will lighten up the black cloud a bit as I remember that time well.

Thank you and good to hear from you. Both of you had an important part in helping me through the darker days for certain. Here in Cleveland, we have learned that we need to be very careful about getting our hopes up too soon when it comes to our sports teams. Still, I'm watching and excited for the Indians and this may be the year!

Thank you, I've read through some of your posts. You are doing the right thing in being here and exploring/discussing the options available to you. The hardest part of the process for us higher Gleason guys really is deciding how to treat it. The "ask a hundred doctors, get a hundred different answers" business makes it even harder. In the end, all you can do is take all of the information that you've gathered everywhere you can find it and then make a decision based upon your gut feeling based upon all of this. I wish you strength in going through that process and best wishes on the upcoming treatment you'll be having. Please be sure to post here for support during treatment. We've all be through it, and I found the support from men here to be priceless.

PS. Yep, the PSA anxiety never seems to go to zero, but it does get better. I have my PSA test tomorrow.

That is great news! My hubby is also a G9. We head in for a PSA update in a couple of weeks...hoping for a good report as well. I remember feeling so terrified upon diagnosis, it's important to have these "good news" posts in here for a boost smile Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on a great report! My husband's situation is very similar to yours and the reference to "worse and worse" news characterizes just how we felt last year. First the diagnosis, then the biopsy with G7-8, the RALP and pathology upgrade to 4+5, +EPE, +SVI, + margin, 1 +node. Decipher high risk. Now 1 year out, rad therapy complete and just past the halfway point of year one of ADT. Most recent PSA <0.04. It is heartening to hear your story and I pray that ours will follow along. Wishing you many more years of non-detectable PSAs.

I have the exact same story and dates of diagnosis. I’m a little older than you but feeling good about the future. Congratulations. I really do believe that the advanced treatment plans are working.
