When someone dies at an advanced age, and people say "he had a good run" "a full life" etc. I always think that when I reach that age I will want more life.
I don't know how Imus treated his PCa, but if he indeed treated it "holistically" and ingested "habanero peppers and Japanese soy supplements as part of a regimen partly devised by his wife, a natural foods proponent" let that be a cautionary tale for other men.
Apparently, he lived 11 years after diagnosis. While we all want more than that, 11 years isn't the worst we've heard. No telling the quality of life he enjoyed, but if he forsook treatment then he also avoided some of the negative SE of treatment. I assume I speak for a lot of us in saying that SE of treatment have been worse than the PC itself. Fully aware that changes as PC advances. He may have had friends who've been down this road and their experience may have lead him to take the no treatment path. We all have to make our own decisions and live with the results. If I knew then what I know now, and if I could have been guaranteed 11 years without surgery and radiation, I'd have taken that deal.<<<
imus had a dislike and distrust for medicine and doctors. he had cancer camps at his ranch for kids after his diagnosis where the kids were fed a vegan diet. the camps ended after Imus was thrown from a horse and injured. according to at least one doctor who worked there Imus was a loose canon and verbally abusive to doctors.
after diagnosis Imus' doctor recommended radiation but Imus opted for Habanero peppers. my SEs from radiation are minor and certainly preferable to, say, bone cancer.
it was his choice, he lived 10-11 years more....whatever. Imus had a low grade cancer and he may of died of something else. nevertheless I do believe in medicine and do not agree with or espouse non-treatment or "holistic" treatment for cancer.
