Goldenyears PSA Rising after Salvage Radiation

Gentlemen,
Anyone have any experience with a rising PSA after salvage radiation? Just about 2 years ago I had salvage that reduced the PSA to .015. It has now bumped up to .026, still very low, but in a direction I'd rather not see. I have read there is the possibility of left over dead prostate cells still expelling PSA. Mine was removed intact 10 years ago so I have been hoping to be done with this. Any thoughts on "bounce"? Thanks!

Yes, but it was while I was on an ADT vacation.
Generally you need two successive upward readings.
Then you can determine your PSADT, less than 10-12 months is not good. Greater then 12 better, 2 years great.

Goldenyears, as alephnull sa.id, it would be helpful if you created a signature , by going to your profile page, with pertinent details. If you do this it will appear with your posts so when you ask a question, others will be better equipped to help.
So it sounds like you had surgery, then BCR, which was treated by salvage radiation (with or without Hormone Therapy???), and now PSA seems to be rising again. at thats what i gather from your post.

One reading by itself doesnt mean anything, you need to see a trend. If you got anther rise on your next test, then its time to keep a close eye on it. How soon you have to do something would likely depend on 1. your Drs opinion, and 2. the doubling time of your PSA rise

Hi Golden,

My health coverage only does the less sensitive test. But after salvage radiation, I did go down to 0.2, then up to 0.3, than back down to <0.1, where it is now. When I first posted about the "bounce", people told me that salvage radiation doesn't bounce. (The conversation should be somewhere around here.) But mine did, or at least it looked that way. Maybe it was rounding error. My surgery was also over 10 years ago, and my doubling time was around two years.

No blanket answer to you question. It happens often, and each case is unique. As has been requested, your background data in a signature would help. In the meantime, relax and enjoy your 'Goldenyears'

After I had salvage radiation, my PSA dropped to <.008. It's interesting that yours did not. Did your doctor have any comment on why it remained detectable? Is it possible that you have residual prostate tissue that is not cancerous? Are you seeing a urologist these days, or your RO? Sorry that I have only questions and no answers.

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry if I sound like I am complaining. I have a far less threatening deal than many guys have. This issue of "PSA bounce" after surgery and then salvage radiation has got me spooked again. I haven't found much information on the net about "bounce" other than it happens from time to time and may mean nothing other than the residue from dead prostate cancer cells.

PSA bouncing is usually associated with RT as primary therapy. Little, if any occurs with SRT because the vast, vast majority of the prostate is gone. But as noted above there could be some minor movement with the PSA. Really all you can do is continue with your PSA tests and see where it leads you.
