Gynecomastia Following 6 Months of Casodex

I've recently completed a 6 month course of Casodex as part of a combo treatment plan of radiotherapy and ADT.
One of the noticeable SEs from the Casodex is gynecomastia. I've unearthed the attached paper on the topic on the PCRI web site (/pcri.org/preventing-and-treating-the-side-effects-of-testosterone-deprivation-therapy-in-men-with-prostate-cancer-a-guide-for-patients-and-physicians/) which suggests that the gynecomastia is irreversible and can only be treated via surgery or liposuction.
Do any of the forum members who have gone down a similar road have any experience/views on this?

See my previous post in one of your threads regarding Casodex and gynocomastia.

I have been taking 20 mg of Tamoxifen daily for a little over a month now and will be finishing my six months course of Casodex and Avodart ADT this week. Although my breast enlargement has not completely resolved it is not any worse. I take my dose of Tamoxifen right before bed and I do notice more firmness in the morning. By evening I notice sometimes that some swelling has returned. Now that I will be finishing my ADT I hope to be seeing better results soon. I have read that the earlier one starts the Tamoxifen therapy the better the results may be.

I will not see my MO until late February although I expect he will have me continue the Tamoxifen therapy if the swelling has not completely resolved by then.

Good Morning GE !....I had somewhat enlarged breast tissue , although I`m a 150 pounder ,and may be much different in larger men , but my se`s from my 6 month Lupron shot were more very sore nipple area and some breast swelling......all went away after a year off the 6 month Lupron....may just need time to get back to " the new normal".....my nipple area sure was sore for a good 6 months though ...swelling down now. David

Hi GE, the only side effect of tamoxifen in my case is that it caused a decrease in my testosterone level.

Hi Gary. I only started to get breast/nipple soreness and swelling after about 4 months of taking Casodex. Before then, the only SE I had was complete loss of libido.

I was taking only 50 MG of Casodex daily for six months, before and after SRT, and 20 MG of Tamoxifen daily for about the last two to three months. See my post above for more info on my particular therapy.

I was also taking Avodart with the Casodex, which decreased my PSA from .441 to .110 (75%) in the first month. Some say the Avodart can mask the PSA by 50%. Either way there was at least a 50% drop.

Thanks, all, for this thread. I am supposed to start either Casodex or Lupron (my enviable choice), and I refuse to start Casodex without avoiding the gynecomastia somehow. My doc suggested that, although Casodex is not as effective as Lupron, I might get a longer time before castrate resistance by starting on Casodex and then moving on to Lupron. I am not averse to radiation to avoid it, but if there is a med or two that work that sounds better yet.
