For a group like this one, I like to change the phrase to a rallying cry, OK Fellow Boomers!

Our parents generation certainly was the greatest. A small something of theirs wore off on us.

My dear mother may she rest in peace was a radiation chemist for the State of KS.
When weather got rough/nasty she was the only one that would go out to collect samples and readings from the remote devices. rain, snow name it and she would do it.

I heard this from someone that mom and I both worked with.
She said no one else would ever consider going out in the weather except mom.
My mother was a hard working conscientious South Dakota gal.

Us Boomers aren't necessarily the best generation, but we were certainly cut from some fine cloth!

Namby pamby wiener whiners. If they go out in the 1-2 inch "blizzard" they drive like my Grandma.

I know what you mean - out here in CA, if the temp goes below 70, everyone is putting on jackets and turning on their heaters ...

and you should see them on a rainy day - you'd think the world was ending ...

I beg to differ. I work in a small business (now)--17 employees. Our 3 youngest employees--well, they do look at the world differently that I do, but I think it will be OK.

We have a 35 yr old, 2 kids, Major in the Army Reserves--with time in Iraq. Quiet leadership type.
We have a 27 yr old, does field service, engineering type. Works hard, always willing to help out, brings ideas to the table every day.
We have a 23 yr old, yes she lives at home, she is also a full time student with 1 1/2 semesters to go for her bachelors. Does cross-fit. (I think she could kick my butt). My goal is to hand off my job to her in a few years.

The future is really in good hands. Is the world full of wusses? Maybe. And, it's our fault. Who made them put on helmets when they rode their bikes, took their side against the teachers, and insisted on participation trophies? I mean, really, we better look in the mirror--they are OUR kids (or grandkids maybe)--we raised 'em and created the world they grew up in.

Sorry, guys, I'm not playing with this one. I know I'm a boomer--and I really wonder about what our legacy really will be.

For many office jobs I think that advances in communication technology/internet allow people more freedom when it comes to working from home in inclement weather.

Not only would I be the first person in the office but I'd email my boss and co-workers a weather report. It included "was able to drive 50MPH all the way on I 75."

In theory, the roads would get better as the day wore on.....but NO ONE Else would come in.

I was even known to offer to go pick people up.

Short answer is yes. Very few of us at any age do hard things. However, the benefit is proportinate to the cost .

This as I get ready to gear up for - 4 F and a couple hours out in the bush with my lovely lady Labrador.

All of the new high tech developments have not been positive. Give a kid (I'm 67 so they're all kids) at the local McDonalds $6 for a $5.10 meal, watch them ring it up so it tells them how much the change should be. Then find a quarter in your pocket so you don't have to deal with all that change and watch their faces as they try to figure out what to do.
I'm still working in a large building with probably 400 or so people. It's brand new and was purpose built for my company. We have two conference rooms with swings in them to entertain the millenials! But wait, it gets worse - they wound up having to take them out because people kept falling out of them!! I don't understand why we have to entertain people at work. They should be here to earn a living not to be entertained.
