I had second opinion at JH also and my initial 3+4 was lowered to 3+3. My one lesion was located very near a seminal vesicle so an MRI was recommended. I live 30 minutes from Wake and an hour from Duke but Wake did not have mp MRI capabilities and thats what I wanted. I also wanted a fusion biopsy if necessary and Duke was the only facility that did that in the area. Only one Uro at Duke collaborates with a radiologist there to do the fusion. The Uro is Dr Polascik and the radiologist is Dr Gupta. My mp MRI did show 50% chance of spread to SV so I had the fusion biopsy. I cant say much for Dr (name deleted). He may be a fine doctor technically, but his bedside manner sucks. Plus the wait time for the 2 times I was in his clinic was 3 hours past my appointment time.
I havent been to Wake except to the ER and it is terrible. I hope it isnt an indication of the overall hospital. I have a friend who was treated there for lymphoma in the cancer ward and was treated very well. If I were choosing between the two, I would go to Duke. I would have to find another Uro there however.
