For those that are interested, here is one Daniel Dumbrill, a Canadian living in Shenzhen. He's not a doctor (he owns a beer brew pub), and not offering medical advice, but is quite interesting, and offers unique perspective as to how China is dealing with this pandemic.

I, for one, have been amazed to see how modern China is, how advanced their infrastructure is, and how far ahead of us they are in terms of readiness to deal with the virus.

Well, considering we don't know where the boundaries of the universe are, in fact it has none, then yes earth is at the center, but so is the Andromeda galaxy, and every also other point in space.
Just thinking from an infinite universe perspective with a little coordinate mathematics thrown in.

A known universe with no true bounds has no true center, and thus all points can claim to be the center.

But in reality, all points are central.
Which I can see both philosophically and mathematically, but I have a hard time believing it.

This is probably going to dip lightly into the political--but it's really a social question--in the event of the worst-case scenario happening in the US--would "we the people" respond well to a massive national quarantine? And, yes, it could play that way.

I really think think they are holding back.
The president had a news conference yesterday appointing VP as the head of the effort to monitor and control the issue.
IMHO It sounds like it's a heck of a lot worse than we know, and they are prepping us.

Well, the good news is the virus isn't a massive killer. Hopefully we all don't catch it at once, which would lead to a terrible disruption in the flow of food and medications, etc.

There is a report in the mainstream media of a person who contracted the virus, tested negative after recovery, and then positive again. It could be reinfection or perhaps a "biphasic" disease, where, after the initial symptoms, you harbor the pathogen in a tissue but it escapes (current) detection and then re-emerges. Unfortunately, even a death rate of, say, 2%, might mean 2% of a very large number. Dr. Fauci said yesterday that vaccine might take 1-1.5 years until widely available, even if early safety trials start soon. We still have many basic facts about this virus to learn.

What few are talking about is the infection rate. Do some math considering the bulk of the Chinese being infected in the Wuhan area over now about four months. I believe the Johns Hooking website Breaks down the statistics b y area.

Hubei province is the area with Wuhan the city as the epicenter. Hubei has some 58 million and Wuhan has about 11 million population. The official report is that some 65,000 have been infected in Hubei province. It is also reported that the incidence has been waning by the daily reports over the last week.

If my math is correct, that is an infection rate of about 0.12%. So about 12 people per 10,000 population. Understanding that China’s response lagged by about 45 days from the start of the outbreak tells me that preparing for it before it takes hold should mean a much lower infection rate in our country and others that are being proactive.

Also, China continues to have a high smoking incidence and air pollution resulting in a much higher rate of lung cancer and lung problems than we have in the USA. That should have a bearing in the death rate as well.

Not trying to diminish the risk, but it is different in the USA and other developed countries than in China. Having lived in China for three years and nearly 15 years in East and Southeast Asia I understand many of these differences firsthand.

Stay healthy, wash your hands, be careful as we always should be in flu season. And look for some stock market bargains. Nothing wrong with a correction every so often. All part of the cycle.
