So, I went out into youtube land, and played nights in white satin....and scrolling down the suggestion list I played Whiter Shade of Pale (is there a better keyboard background anywhere?).....and closed out with George Thorogood with One bourbon, one scotch, one beer....give me amazing musicianship and you've got me. And there were some amazing musicians in that era.

This lot influenced me a lot during the mid 70's (I've been a pro musician for most of my working life)

We went through a period from the mid 90s to the early 2000's trying to catch our favorite 60's and 70's bands. We drove all over the southeast mostly catching Three Dog Night (hence my moniker TDNJAM). But those days allowed us to also see the Doobies, Chicago, Grand Funk, Guess Who/BTO, America, Elton John, Rare Earth (saw them in a nightclub and only 6 people showed up...I felt so embarrassed for them but they still gave us a great show), and many more. In some cases original members were missing but still it allowed us to enjoy something we never got to experience in the 70s.

I first heard One by Al Kooper on his I Stand Alone album in 1969 and became a fan. His work with Mike Bloomfield and Blood Sweat & Tears is legendary.

I've thought about doing something similar, but to see acts on their home turf. Some I'd like to see:
Bob Seger in Michigan
Van Morrison in Ireland
Donovan in Scotland
Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey
Belle and Sebastian in Scotland
Bob Dylan in Hibbing
Nanci Griffith in Texas
Chris Isaak in Stockton
Pink Martini in Portland, OR
Ho'omau in Hawaii

Being that I'm originally from Los Angeles and now live in Montana I've been out of the loop for quite a while but I will admit over the last couple years, here, I've seen some great concerts, all in our small downtown theater: Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt, and Lyle Lovett with John Hiatt.

Vince your out of luck of Bob Dylan coming to his hometown of Hibbing, he will not even acknowledge Hibbing I guess he was kinda picked on. My daughter-in-law's mother was in the same grade he was she said he was kinda a strange guy nice but strange so the kids picked on him. They don't even have a sign anymore where he grew up. Duluth kind of makes a bigger deal of it and he has been back there a couple of times.

Oh My. I wasted a good number of evenings with Tom Lehrer. Harvard (or was it MIT) mathematician turned entertainer. I'm not sure what my favorite is.

Never got to see them when they were all together. At least we got to see them when Cory and Danny fronted the band. Sadly they sound more like a tribute band now (and a pretty bad one at that). We saw Chuck several times with his own band.

While we went to venues to see our favorites, many times other bands would be on the same bill. Considering how many bands we have seen, I am surprised we never saw any of the ones you mentioned. And we would have loved to have seen some of those you mentioned. Sadly, I don't know when or if things will return to normal so it is safe to attend a concert.

It is a commentary on what was going on at the time (late 60ā€™s). And it really felt a lot like a commentary on how I feel about whatā€™s going on now, with the virus.

I was in Hibbing a few years ago and drove down Bob Dylan Drive, which I think was 7th Ave.
My wife is from the Twin Cities so I've spent lots of time in that state, I even ran the Duluth marathon some years ago. I really like Duluth but not sure I would in the winter. There is a great mansion on the lake to tour, Glensheen. Don't miss it. There was even a murder there but the tour guide won't talk about it, officially.
Oh, and I saw Dylan here in Billings a few years ago at our Shrine Auditorium. Really small venue and he put on a fantastic show.

Didn't read all the posts- the ones I did listed lots of my favorites. For the past 8 years or so hubby and I have been taking overnight trips to see all the ageing rockers (mostly from the 70s) before they die. Have seen the Eagles multiple times- their songs are amazing played live! Moody Blues, too! Earth Wind and Fire do a great live performance, too (can't believe Verdine still has soooo much energy). Elton John set the bar high, too. And Queen (yes, even with Adam Lambert) is wonderful- beyond words. Too many songs to pick from and I don't want to leave out any...ā€¦.. If I had to pick just one song from one band, I guess I'd go with Styx and Crystal Ball. But I'd keep wanting to add just one more, and one more...ā€¦...

Growing up in a small Midwestern town, it was a BIG DEAL to hit the road one summer weekend, with my high school girlfriend, to see my first rock concert.

We saw .38 SPECIAL, back when they were hitting the radio airwaves, and I think tickets were $15.00!

I think I was 17 ... summer road trip ... I didn't care which concert we went to ... and neither did she ... it was all about HITTING THE ROAD.

Anybody still have their old concert t-shirts that seemed to be ESSENTIAL souvenirs, back in the day?

In college, I lived near the sports stadium, and saw every concert that I could ... The Who, The Rolling Stones, the Eagles ... and I especially liked U2 in concert ... just when "The Joshua Tree" album was skyrocketing ...

I'm still tight with my college "gang" ... we really enjoyed concert ROAD TRIPS ...

We also laugh about the times we all CAMPED OUT overnight in line, to get prime seats for concerts, back in the day. Anybody else camp out to buy tickets?

Crazy college days, but I have to say ... those were some GREAT TIMES, looking back!
