On scheduled vacation time, so this sucks.
Sunshine last two days, vitamin D3 levels achieved maximal levels.
Mr Beam is calling, significant other out tomorrow, James and I will discuss the current situation.

Report individual situations at earliest possible moment. Supplies will reach you as soon as supply lines restored. For now all fend for yourselves.

I was tempted to call Mr Beam early but, resources low. Late night visit, was warm and cordial.
Mr Beam confirms this is just a big cluster fork.

Spent most of week in the yard clearing underground rain drain lines.
Sun was appreciated, but spent last two days recovering. I haven’t felt that good in years. Anyone got an outdoor job for 60+ year old programmers. Compensation must be comparable.

I pray all are enjoying/dealing with this situation in good spirits.

Most of my state, Kansas, is private land. We have several reservoirs that are publicly accessible, but it's not the same.
We have two national grasslands that are gorgeous, but you have to appreciate subtle beauty.
No mountains, sigh.... We have the Flint Hills, which if you are ever in KS in late spring or fall, visit them. They are absolutely gorgeous.

Wife from Pratt, Mother from Lyons. Wife's home place on a yellow brick road, with giant cottonwoods.

Just remembered, my late father in-law was born and raised in Pratt.

Well alright, that’s pretty neat. My father in-law was born in 1923(I think)

They likely knew each other. His father was a firefighter.

The Zimmermans and Zierleins(Mom's side) came to the USA in the mid 1840s, both ended up in southern Illinois.
They then moved on to Arnold Nebraska where my grand mother was born in a sod house outside of Arnold.
G-Pa was a "city" boy of Arnold.
I have a picture of her and my great g-parents in front of that soddie.
Grandpa and grand ma met and were married there.
They then went on to homestead 320 acres in the middle of SD just west of the Missouri.
After G-Pa Zimmerman died, G-Ma met and married G-Pa Leonard Ellis who by chance was raised in Valley Falls KS, which is maybe 20 miles from where I sit at this writing.
G-Pa Leonard the only G-Pa I ever met told me he played football for VFalls HS at the astounding weight of 105 lbs.
All three are buried up on the SD prairie.

We should all write a history book of our families.

The story of Mom growing up on the homestead, is for another time.

I am not the person my parents and grand parents were.
They were all strong hardy folk!

manich, it is a small, small world.

halbert, I wonder what made him turn back to Illinois. KS prairie was the beginning of the Great American Desert, (at least back then), or maybe sense took hold and he realized the gold fields of California were a far off dream. But it appears he made the right decision.

Side note: My late MiL was a sorority sister at Emporia State to Karl Malden's wife.

Sorry for the slow response, I've been mostly dark lately. Too much talk about the current situation.It really get's to me.

What our families went thru back then is amazing! I for one am not of the same caliber as they were.

Sigh, I doubt if I am the same caliber either, sadly. I ponder this: What guts it took to pack a suitcase in the old country and get on a ship to cross to....what? Or to load up a wagon with what you could haul and set off cross country to....what?

The sheer scope of it is beyond imagination. What was it really like to cross into the Kansas territory in an oxen drawn wagon, see the front range for the first time--and then see it every day for weeks and months as you gained 2-3 miles a day.

Yeah, it is a good story--and it is mostly true, the genealogy records bear much of it out. I'm sure most of us have some family history that would be interesting to write down.

I've been somewhat dark lately bc this carp is really getting to me.

halbert, interesting that both sides: theological and scientific side pretty much argue everything was created from nothing. I know that's not exactly true with the big bang, but my understanding is that all matter came from the big bang, so from nothing?

Exciting, did you ever wonder about how exciting your life has been or not?
Lately I have been. Nothing comes to mind, don't get me wrong I've had wondrous experiences. But nothing exciting, maybe wondrous things are exciting. But I guess I mean, things that get your adrenaline going.
My G-Pa was a aircraft mechanic in WWI, I even have a picture of him and the pilot and others in front of that aircraft in France. I even have a Great G-Pa that served during the Civil War.
My father served in the Philippines in WWII and in Vietnam 69-70ish.
One brother served 3 tours in Vietnam on a gun boat going up and down the Mekong River.
My other two brothers are both retired military, one a helicopter mechanic, the other I don't know except to say he flew over the South Atlantic looking for Soviet Subs.
Heck, even my oldest sister was an Army Nurse during Vietnam. And she married a guy in Army Intelligence.
My "excitement" has been more gentile.
My Army time was short lived and uneventful, beginning of the All Volunteer Army.
When I was about 13, I was hiking in the Black Hills and I spotted a buck, he spotted me. We stared at each other for a little bit. He deemed me no threat and just ambled off.
A bit older, I was walking in the woods with the wind in my face when I spotted a bobcat going the same way. I followed it for about 5 minutes. He then spotted me, and stared at me and me at him. He took off when I decided to walk towards him just to see what would happen.
Stuff like that, nothing to write a book about like my family members experiences.

Yes, even socialists. G O D loves them and so do I.
