Freud said that the ego never believes that it will die, that the deity will make a grand exception for him or her. Up until my brother’s fateful heart attack he felt that he was going to bounce back. He had advanced renal failure and metastatic prostate cancer. The corona deniers feel immune to the virus but the virus doesn’t care it wants to survive. Before it kills the host it needs another host. They are all acceptable to the virus.

From the CDC-Flu estimates.

The link below estimates Flu deaths this flu season to be anywhere from 24K to 62K. It also states that these numbers may well be under estimated.
Isn't 62K the same number that they are estimating for corona virus?

Young, healthy individuals should be allowed to go about their business. Why don't we all just wear masks and wash our hands?
Masks don't protect you, but they protect everyone else, so if everyone is wearing one,..............

Around here, in upstate NY, I would say about 90% of people in public are wearing masks — a month ago, only a handful. My wife sewed up 25, and these went to family and friends in a NY minute. Some people will just not do it — I’ve noticed they are mostly young and male. But never do get to 100% in just about anything. Stay well.

Yes, 62K is in the ballpark for what they are estimating for covid-19. But that's 62K *after* taking all of these measures. It would be significantly higher without that.

And keep in mind that we've had 42K deaths just over the last 2.5 months.

I have been to the US many times and always enjoyed my time there and in general like it's peoples but that is a foolish and arrogant statement for you to make regarding liberty.
Look at what the US has done to it's own and other countries citizens in the name of freedom over the last 50 years.

and deaths have doubled in the past week or so. I remember early on there were people mocking 59 deaths and then 129 deaths......

A vaccine may or may not be here in a year plus. Ever since Montagnier first isolated the AIDS virus in 1983 we've had nearly 40 years of talk like "We'll have an AIDS vaccine next month" bullcrap.

We'll see what happens in the states that open up ahead of even the CDC relaxation guidelines. Much of the spread is from folks before their first symptom appears as well as aymptomatics. And there are probably superspeaders with really huge viral loads. Early antibody testing seems to indicate the large majority of us have had no disease, so eard immunity may be a long way off. A poll I saw today has only 1 in 10 in the Looney camp of Liberate Now or Die Free (make that AND die free).

Our past has things that we have corrected, but the last 50 years has probably the best record of any country.
We have a Constitution that guarantees individual rights. Not many other countries reciprocate.

We don't restrict speech like Canada, England, and some European countries do. As do the vast majority of the world's countries.

And about doing to other countries? The interventions I'm aware of, have all been about routing out terrorists. And those same terrorist have caused calamity around the world.

Others, If worrying about our freedoms being eroded is a minority opinion, then this country really is in trouble.

alephnull, off the top of my head - Civil rights, Native American rights, shooting Kent State students protesting against an unjust war, unethical biological experiments during the 50's and 60's (a bit earlier than 50 years to be fair)
I notice you didn't respond to the point about countries outside the USA, counties that have been destabilised by war with the USA as the prime mover for it's own political and commercial ends.

All fine and well folks...but try to repress an I told your so attiude...as y'all "celebrate" short lived victories er..No that's not a victory any more than the other...good lord do you still think its about one view vs another...life has always been a a "Sophie' s Choice" deal with it...anything else is on the icy slope to facism yes folks people do die for their beliefs every fricken day...

Churchill was right. Americans will always do the right thing after they have tried everything else. Covid-19 does not care if you are liberal or conservative! This virus is super efficient, much more than Ebola. The scary scenario is what if we cannot come up with a vaccine.

We are quite a bit bigger than any other country except for China and Russia, that's why we have more deaths. Nothing to celebrate, not even sarcastically.

I disagree about it being an unjust war, but we'll ignore that for now. BTW Congress gave President Johnson authority to go to Vietnam.
But Kent State was a sad and bad time, terrible time. Lots of tensions going on,
the state of Ohio used National Guard troops, largely inexperienced.
But note it was the Ohio national guard not the US Army.
So the US Govt didn't do anything.
Note: The US Govt sent in the US Airborne to allow black children to attend white public schools.

Yes I did, I responded by stating the ones we have interacted with were due to terrorism. And might I add to also fight communism.

I'm from the UK and I didn't say we were so perfect, I disagree with lots of things this Conservative government has done, especially the running down of the NHS and the support of business at the expense of ordinary working people. We were certainly as bad as any country for screwing other people all over the world in our past history.

Let me take you back to your original statement:

That's a pretty insulting and arrogant attitude of which I was pointing out the anomalies.
