HELLO, been a while since i have been on. not sure if this is allowed. but hubby has been on Zytiga for 3 yrs now with great results. now our problem is insurance has decided after 3 years they no longer want to cover the cost. he is at the point after constantly having to battle them that he is just going to stop taking it instead of paying the $6-10K/month copay. so was wondering if anyone has gotten Zytiga out of Mexico and if you could point me in the direction of the process or specialty pharmacy i need. i am computer illiterate and can't seem to find anything on line. Thanks

Sorry to here that. Won't your insurance even cover the generic version of Abiraterone Acetate? They make it in India, Canada and the U.S. . I have not heard of a Mexican lab that makes it, and I would not trust it being sold there. The brand I get now is significantly lower than the cost of Janssen's Zytiga, whose patent expired last year. Thats why my and other Insurance companies only cover the generic. Mine cost $7,500 but my Aetna Insurance covers all but 10 dollars. Are you able to afford any other Insurance Company? Best of luck getting a resolution, because for me and many others A.A. is a wonder drug. We hope $Big Pharma $ and heartless Insurance Co. does not keep you from getting it.

I will echo the sentiments of my comrade, Wings of Eagles, who posted above.

Most of us who are on ZYTIGA have now switched over to the generic version that Wings of Eagles mentioned.

The generic version results in great cost savings. It is called ABIRATERONE ACETATE.

I assure you that the generic is just as effective as ZYTIGA, in my experience.

Please consult with your doctor. Your doctor can hopefully lead you to a compassionate care situation, allowing you to find a way to obtain the medicine affordably.

Is there a social worker at the hospital or at the pharmacy that can help you find an affordable prescription for this medication?

I am hoping, hoping, HOPING you can find a way to obtain the medication, affordably.

Keep forging ahead ---- keep asking for answers through the hospital.

There has to be an answer for you. Keep searching for solutions. That is my hope for you!

There are several pathways to obtain expensive drugs without being forced into bankruptcy.. There are "Co-pay Foundations" that will cover the co-pay 100% They are online or you can ask the pharmacist where you obtain your Zytiga to point you in the right direction...This drug, "AA" is now made in generic form and is available all over the world at greatly reduced prices..The generic versions are just as effective as the Brand Name one as the drug is not difficult to manufacture..I think that by switching to the generic version, your problems with your insurance company will go away..

CABORED, I checked www.goodrx.com. A prescription of the generic version of Zytiga, 240 tablets , 250 mg shows costs ranging from $1955 to $2145, Low being Costco, high being Publix, with their coupon. Prices can vary by area. I check the band name as well, just to compare, it was over $21,000, on the low end.

I’ve used Goodrx to save a lot of money on Cialis, it works. Take a look.
