i had my first treatment last thursday,the first couple of days i thought to myself this isnt going to be too bad.fast forward to the next wednesday.i felt like i had been run over by a bus.that same afternoon my doctor called me and revealed to me that i had gotten too big of a dose.my white blood cell count dropped and i am now taking an antibiotic.i lost my taste on the 3rd day.i had ice chips during my treatment,did not help me it seems.

Cabotaxel can be rough..Try Jevtana (Cabazitaxel) For me, it worked better with far fewer side-effects..

Hello, Mickey ~

Unfortunate turn of events, in the dosage, during your chemotherapy infusions.

I remember during my infusions, a care nurse and also a lead nurse had to double check every component, dosage, and quantity. It was a system of "checks & balances" --- so to speak.

In your case, this was definitely a serious oversight ...

I had a full-blown allergic reaction to one chemo component, which had to be immediately addressed that day. My oncologist came running to the infusion room, and ordered immediate action.

I was turning deep red, had blotches all over my skin, was having trouble breathing, and couldn't speak with clarity --- a severe allergic reaction.

In the end, all was well, after liquid Benedryl was infused immediately ... but chemotherapy contains potent toxins, as I learned that day, first-hand ...

Meanwhile, I think you should drink plenty of water this weekend, to help flush out the toxins. Can't hurt, certainly might help ...

I always drank plenty of water after every infusion. Just healthy hydration ...

I hope this medical mistake will be documented. Someone, somewhere along the line, made a mistake ---- and that needs to be addressed.

I appreciate that your doctor contacted you directly, however ... once the mistake was realized.

I hope your side effects are few --- if you experience any trouble, don't hesitate to get to the hospital or clinic. Just looking out for you, wanting all the best for you ...

The train hits me on the 3rd or 4th day. Taxotere is well strong medicine. As my friend cyclone says, drink plenty of water, do not be afraid to ask them for a bag of saline before hand if you are feeling dehydrated. My MO and I evaluate my hydration before every treatment. Stay positive and remember you are not alone.

has anyone had their psa spike up from taxotere?mine went up considerably from the last time.doc says to plan on a couple of increases before it starts to lower.

I always follow your posts, my comrade.

I didn't experience the spike in PSA that you are describing, when I went through TAXOTERE chemotherapy infusions.

However, there is a documented phenomenon called "Taxotere flare" ---

I read a research article that stated about 14% of TAXOTERE chemotherapy patients experienced this flare or "surge" ---- as it was described.

The research article stated that the flare lasted a median of 21 days, in this particular study.

It stated the PSA flare, for those fellows, often lasted over one or two Taxotere infusion cycles.

For additional information, simply Google the term "Taxotere flare" for more background.

Above all else, consult with your oncologist, who is overseeing your chemotherapy infusions. Insight, expertise, experience ...

My oncologist & his main care nurse even answer brief medical questions through my online medical account.

Some clinics offer medical question telephone numbers, even on weekends.

Don't hesitate to "reach out" to your medical team, if you have a question.

There's often a care nurse that can answer immediate questions, and can refer you to a doctor, if needed. Sometimes asking a question can bring peace of mind.

Be careful with the flare. My rise in PSA was attributed to flare and then bang my scans showed progression. Keep an eye on your alkaline phosphate which rises during progression.

after my 3rd treatment a couple of weeks ago i lost my taste on the 2nd day..had to get fluids the next week although they said my bloodwork looked pretty good.they did tell me that my psa went down almost 4 points.its still in the high 90s though.

Mickey hang in there. I know, easy for me to say. Hopefully this treatment does the job, and your PSA continues to decline. We are all with you on this. Its tough. But you are not alone.Its bog that your bloodwork looks good and so far, wont interfere with treatment protocols

i had my most recent chemo thursday a week ago.its probably the worst one yet.by last saturday i was down for the count.i spent 5 days in bed feeling terrible.no taste,no appetite,no energy whatsoever.i lost 15 pounds in 6 days.i went back wednesday for fluids,finally got out to my shop today{friday sept 3rd}i am seriously considering stopping chemo,as i dont think i can last until the treatment ends.for anyone that has completed the chemo,i have a question.how long until your doctor saw a decrease in your psa,or your scans?

I have followed your posts for quite some time.

Chemotherapy infusions are never a "Sunday afternoon walk in the park" ---- as your latest post describes.

I am mindful of you, Mickey. You're in the middle of a treatment battleground right now. It gets tough out there ---- battling through.

In answer to your question ... my PSA was tested before each TAXOTERE chemotherapy infusion.

Bit by bit, each infusion showed a decrease in PSA levels for me --- and these decreases encouraged me.

My doctor reminded me the last treatments can be the toughest --- a fellow can be weary --- physically and emotionally --- and the last treatments have the toughest job to do ---- attacking those stubborn, residual cancer cells.

Stay in close contact with your oncologist and medical team, Mickey. There's other formulations of chemotherapy --- and modified doses, and so forth, if TAXOTERE is knocking all the wind out of your sails.

its been awhile since i last posted.i have since just started the radium 223 regimen.a few weeks ago they found additional mets scattered around,and my psa currently sits above 360.i have not had any bad side effects of the radium on my first injection.hopefully this helps.

Stay with it Mickey. It has not been easy I am sure. Did Onc. mention Neutropenic fever? I was told that if body temperature went to 100.4, or above, I should head for the E.R. They also gave me a wallet card that I was to give them at the E.R. which related I was at a risk for Neutropenia. This gets you past all the waiting lines and directly to isolation.
Not sure if this applies to Radium. But with Chemo it is a risk.
