It looks like DH’s recent detectable PSA may be a sign of disease recurrence. We’re getting things lined up just in case. (Especially since DH’s current urologist now says he should begin SRT now.)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a radiation oncologist who does salvage radiation in the Seattle area?

Any info about an RO there, or about a Seattle urologic oncologist would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think there are some nationally "famous" ROs in Seattle, but I don't know who they are. I remember my URO discussing witnessing an intense argument on stage, at a conference, between the guys in Seattle vs the guys in Atlanta about who's methods were superior. But sorry, I have no info about who you should see, maybe some one else will chime in. This is probably not worth much, just a list of some in the area. I don't know what the qualifications are to get on the list of "top doctors".

Seattle Prostate Institute and the Swedish Medical Center are both PCa radiation specialists.

BillyBob and JNF: I remember that Grimm is in Seattle, and I think he is/was affiliated with the Seattle Prostate Institute. I thought Grimm was well-known for brachytherapy. Would he also do salvage RT? (I have no idea what they use for SRT)

Tim: I will email Tony and see if he has some names.

It’s interesting that the well-known ROs are not apparently affiliated w the University of Washington/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I think DH would prefer to stay with the UW/SCCA but we’ll see.

Peter Grimm passed away a few years ago. He was a great RO and permanent seed specialist.

Peter Grimm died in 2016 and the Seatlle Prostate Institute closed.

I remember my mom...when ever she said "we'll see" as I was growing up...I knew exactly what that meant...and I bet 99? percent of the men here knew exactly what it meant as well...and we still do...I calls em as I see's em...good bad and ugly

To clarify, the Seattle Prostate Center merged with the Swedish Medical several years ago, but both names continue to be active for search purposes. Best is to use www.swedish.org. They are very comprehensive in treating prostate cancer and use most all forms of radiotherapy, cryotherapy and medical oncology.

Thanks for that tip, Mumbo. It appears that a couple well-known SRT docs have retired recently. But I'm still researching it--and was just about to email Tim's friend Tony.

I did receive your message in email and came here to answer. I do know many doctors in the Northwest area in both the Portland and Seattle area. The University of Washington has a strong prostate cancer group. I work extensively with the Dr. Evan Yu, radiation oncology at UW. I have worked with Evan, and Dr. Daniel Lin (urologic oncology) also at SCCA for about 8 years so I am a little biased. But where I have worked with these guys might take the bias down a notch. Both Dan and Evan are very strong prostate cancer researchers at ASCO, SWOG, and both are on the Prostate Cancer Task Force for the NIH. Your husbands intuition to stay at SCCA is something I would recommend to anyone. Given that Dan and Evan (and I) have worked putting together clinical trials and reviewing them you get a full package of practical application and foresight into next generation treatments. I would also recommend Dr. Celestia (Tia) Higano as a medical oncologist at UW, but I know that she also works extensively with Evan and Dan in research so you wouldn't miss a beat with any of them.

Just a thought to share.

i went through my very old and undeleted emails. I had 12 old emails from Dr. Peter Grimm. My last one was in 2015. He and I started communicating in 2009. Again in 2010 when he posted at HealingWell promoting data on brachytherapy. As a moderator back then I locked that thread and lectured the doctor that he could not promote his wares and that HW was a peer to peer discussion group. That caused a few emails between us...lol.

He was a really good guy though and we stayed in touch. I finally met him in person at the PCRI event in Los Angeles in 2015. By the time that event was held the next year he had passed away suddenly. He was a pioneer in brachytherapy.

I was happily with Dr. Celestia (Tia) Higano until recently. She has separated ways with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and is in the process of setting up a new practice. I switched over to Dr. Evan Yu at SCCA and am also happy with him. I am very happy with SCCA and the doctors and staff that work there.
