Rising PSA after RALP and SRT

After RALP in July 2013 and radiation treatments in November-December 2015; my PSA is still rising (see profile signature below). It was 0.82 at last week's blood draw, which is a doubling rate of 6.9 months. My doctor says the next step is a bone scan followed by an Aximum scan when my PSA reaches 2.0-2.5, which looks to be less than a year away. I'm not as freaked about my cancer as I have been after previous PSA results. But I want to stay on top of this beast the best I can. The doc says that even at a PSA of 2.0-2.5 the Aximum scan may not show anything. He says that HT is a possibility in the future also. Are there other options that I should be asking about?

Your signature isn't showing, but from what you say in your post I agree you are heading for ADT, but maybe not for quite a while. See my signature. I went on ADT with a PSA of over 6 after failed surgery and salvage radiation. Have been off ADT for 16 months now and am due to start another round soon. I had two Axumin PET scans - one in June and another a couple of weeks ago with a PSA of 1.8. Neither scan showed anything. The good news is, for me, the first round of ADT worked. My MO says they next round may be only for a month or two if the Degarelix (Firmagon) works as well as it did last time. Don't put too much stock in doubling time calculations with a PSA that is still not in whole numbers. Last time around my DT shortened quickly after it was over 1.0 - not good. This time my DT seems to be lengthening. If I calculate my DT a few months ago when the numbers were still <1.0 it was probably 2 - 3 months. When I look at the numbers of the past couple of months it is closer to 5 months. The really low numbers don't necessarily extrapolate.

Your signature showed up on your last post. Sometime these things cannot be explained.

My plan is to go to the best prostate oncologist I can find if PSA starts rising after RALP and RT (Mayo probably for me). Not sure who or where that would be relative to Alabama but now is the time to do your due diligence and locate the best resources for future treatment since you will be in it for the long haul. Actual treatments can be done locally but consulting with the best should confirm the next steps so you know you are heading in the right direction. Just my opinion.

I got another PSA draw done yesterday and it went from 0.82 last August to 1.80. Prior to the draw, I met with the doctor and he said when it hits 1.5 that they would do CT and MRI's (maybe insurance requires these first?) and then Aximum PET scan at 2.0-2.5. He is going to call me Monday to discuss things. The nurse (who called with the results today) said that he would recommend another PSA draw in 3 months, so I may be at the PET scan stage at that time. Things are picking up, but I'll take one day at a time.

"If you build it they will come" and boy have they built it...tests to see if you should have this test..to see if you should have that test...to see if you should......has any thing really changed in the last 12 years( I use that period because iI was diagnosed on 09)...over treatment is still rampant...fear is still rampant...where is all the faith bandied about here...harumph...band-aid on the soul...
