Thirteen years ago tomorrow I had my date with the DaVinci robot, made more difficult because of my extra large prostrate and being big and tall. Monday I had my PSA test results, and I can thankfully report that it was once again undetectable. Over the past 13 years, my older brother also had prostate cancer, following in the footsteps of our Father, Grandfather, Uncle and cousin. My brother, cousin and I were lucky, all the cancer was removed and there was no spread. My oldest brother is almost 80, and has no signs of prostate cancer. I did have some genetic testing done this year, and it did not show any genetic issue caused my prostate cancer. I will never forget first coming to this wonderful forum, and the encouragement I got from Bluebird and others helped me cope with the terrible waiting before my surgery. Keep helping each other, drinks and cigars are on me!

Right now, "13" is certainly NOT an "unlucky number" as those with superstitions may believe!

Tremendous milestone! Yee-haw! Yay-hoo!

We have some common threads in our story --- my grandfather, my father, and I have all had a prostate cancer diagnosis. This summer, my uncle was also diagnosed --- Mom's brother.

Like you --- my doctor wanted me to participate in a couple of new genetic tests --- yet, we discovered there was no genetic link for me --- which was somewhat surprising.

One personal reason for pursuing the testing --- I have a younger brother, several younger male cousins, and six nephews.

One bit of advice for any fellow who is considering a genetic test, which can also lead to determining if additional medications might help with your specific case --- double-check with your insurance, before undergoing genetic testing.

Many of these tests are cutting-edge, and aren't necessarily covered yet by insurance, and can carry a hefty out-of-pocket price.

Your doctor can seek coverage from your insurance coverage, but you want to have your "ducks in a row" on this --- ahead of time.

Call up your favorite bakery, and order a cake with 13 candles on it --- and let the celebration begin!

Congrats on successfully still being below detection!!! We do need to hear about more success stories...

13 years for me also... Have had a few setbacks, but PSA now seems to currently remain steady in the 0.2 to 0.3 range. Hardly ever think about PCa/PSA anymore... Too busy living life to it's fullest... smile
