Yes, Quest Diagnostics now gets PSA test results to patients within 24 hours. (It used to be they required a minimum of 48 hours, but it was often 72 or more, as I remember from personal experience).

But it's now within 24. I can speak to this because just last month I had my annual check-up with my uro, and as part of that I had a PSA test at QD a few days earlier, before the uro appointment.

The details:

SEP 14: Blood draw for PSA at a QD clinic here in Gainesville. Appointment time was 10:30 AM. Blood drawn at 10:43 AM.

SEP 15: Checked my email at 8:30 AM. Saw that message from QD had loaded at 2:05 AM saying that test result was ready. Went to QD site, accessed my account, and viewed result.

So in the above case, from getting test done to having result ready for access, was about 15 hours.

Not bad.

(BTW, my PSA this time was 0.4, up from 0.3 last year, but "okay for an RT guy," as my uro put it).

Always get mine in about two hours using patient portal. Incredibly fast and inexpensive tool.

My local hospital switched to Quest a few years ago. It always took at least a couple of days both before and after they switched to Quest. But the last couple of times I was tested there I got results within a few hours. When I go to Dana-Farber I get results within about and hour.

Something I have done, in recent years ...

I visit the lab a few days a few days before seeing my oncologist ~~~ that way, he has time to receive, review, and assess all results before my appointment.

I can ask more specific questions, and the quality of our consultation time together remains top-notch, because all components of my lab work have been processed and received.

In light of the recent pandemic, I now have my labs done "upstairs" at the clinic, in the private quiet lab in the oncology department --- instead of the main lab on the main floor.

In the oncology lab, reserved for oncology patients only, there's FAR less "foot traffic" ...

In my case, I have my oncologist share my lab results with me in person ~~~ because he shares context and occasional reassurance with me, when I need that.

We look over many aspects of my lab work, beyond PSA scores, to help me keep maintaining new health goals for the future.

The online patient portals have become very helpful to patients --- 25 years ago, when my dad became a leukemia survivor, he would go to the lab occasionally, and then nervously await a telephone call from the clinic a few days later ---- no online patient accounts back then, for Dad's leukemia case.

We've traveled a L-O-N-G way since those days, fellows!

Most hospitals have results available within a few hours, at least the large ones. Some of them release results to the portal and others wait for Dr to release them.

It looks like labcorp is no longer waiting for Drs to release. I had a covid test last week and had the results the next morning. And saw a note on the portal that "Labcorp now releases results as soon as available, without waiting for Dr" or something to that effect. I dont believe it was meant just for COVID, my distinct impression was that it was applicable to all test results as long as you were registered on their portal.
As an aside, the urgent care center released the results to THEIR portal 3 days later WTH
