There is an old expression that goes: "How do you know when you've truly beaten cancer? When you die of something else."
Well, our dear friend Goodlife beat cancer last night, 11/27/20. The cause of death was Covid-19.
Dick was the first person to greet me here the night of my surgery, 10+ years ago. I was in pain, depressed, sad, and scared. But his humor and banter pulled me out of my slump. He made the unlaughable side-effects, laughable. I knew I was not alone. By the next morning he had almost convinced me that my prostatectomy was a positive thing.
After a few weeks, we decided we had to meet in person. He took the risk, scooped up Chiquita, hopped in his truck and drove from Ohio to spend a long weekend with Paul N and me. We spent hours talking about
subjects we couldn't discuss with anyone else.
We all felt so good about
the weekend we were certain the get-together was good for men's prostate health. And the seed for GFMPH was planted.
Dick led a Goodlife and will be missed.

Thanks for posting, Jeff, I was about
to let people know here.
Dick was a great friend to all of us. At the GFMPH gatherings he was our pastor always blessing each meal to keep us strong and better together. And in too many gatherings he officiated as we held services for fallen brothers.
We will miss him, but always remember him. Always with a smile and a greeting and words of encouragement in that great booming voice. A big man with an even bigger heart and soul.
Our prayers for Barbara and all the family. May the Lord hold him close.

I had the good fortune of meeting "Goodlife" in person at more than one GFMPH gathering. You didnt have to spend much time talking to him to know immediately that he was a special, caring, wonderful guy. He will always be remembered. May his memory be a blessing and may God watch over his family.

I never did have the chance to meet Goodlife, but he I was fortunate to receive his counsel when I first arrived here. May he rest in peace.

Sorry, but being killed by Covid isn’t my idea of beating cancer.

A great friend indeed. He drove 300 miles to meet me while I was a moderator here. That as ten year ago. I met him again at a GFMPH meeting near the Kennedy Space Center. Sonny's house.
Dick Baldwin is among the best I met in fighting PCa. As an FB fan of his, this was sudden and quick...and terrible news.

Goodlife was a good man indeed. He will be missed. I hope his family is comforted by the memories of love and compassion that Dick brought into this world. God bless them.

Just a couple of months ago, I was bragging on FB about
Goodlifes cooking at the GFMPHs. He saw it and invited me to come visit again. You see, when I first joined, he was instrumental getting me through my surgery with his giant heart. I met a couple of other members at his house before my first GFMPH. The visit was a blast of local activities that rivaled the GFMPH meets with just four of us. He and his wife were truly the Gooderest.
I'm so grateful to have known him and could write a book of praise. It's a darn shame he was taken by the rona after surviving PCA, a 2 story fall on concrete and a drill thru a hand. He was one tough man with the friendliest ways. Never ever heard a complaint about
anything. He genuinely was Goodlife. Godspeed Dick.

Dick was a hugely positive person, bringing light everywhere he went. His personality was as big as his voice, which is saying something! A good friend, an inspiration, and a person who made the lives better for anyone who knew him. I so enjoyed the various times we got to be with him and Barb.
I'm so sorry he is gone from us, and I look forward to one day seeing him again in another, more beautiful, place.
RIP, dear brother....

I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person. I only "knew" him through his posts here, but I'm sure sorry to hear that he has passed away. At the same time, it's good to know that our members don't always just vanish. I think it's generally a positive thing to know what happens to our members, whether good or bad, and perhaps we should all instruct our families to share word of our passing with the HW community.

Dick was always welcoming with a booming voice, a quick smile, and a bear hug. I'm lucky to have known him. And I wish him well on the final journey home... RIP
