I think some of you guys here on longterm ADT might have some experience with Prolia/Denosumab to prevent Osteoporosis, how critical is the timing between 6 month injections? Actually I'm asking this in the case of my mother, not myself. She's 93 and has osteoporosis (she broke her right hip back in May). She received her first six month Prolia injection on the 24th of June. Exactly six months later day will be December 24th, Christmas eve. I'm wondering if the next injection can wait until the first week of the new year or if I should try to get it scheduled for her on Dec. 24.

Ironic! Just had my six-month PROLIA injection TODAY --- to maintain bone strength and integrity, to counteract side effects of ADT.

Consult with the doctor, but I don't think an extra week will matter.

HOWEVER, you do not want it given even a day sooner than 6 months, due to insurance restrictions. I ran into this --- stopped by the clinic on Wednesday, but they had to reschedule for today, to ensure that the six-month time period had fully passed, for insurance purposes.

I often see commercials for PROLIA --- often used for osteoporosis patients. I also have occasional bone density scans ---- and take a couple of calcium tablets a day, in accordance with my doctor's wishes.

Just check with your mom's doctor --- a delay of a few days shouldn't be a concern, in my thinking. Good to get the appointment booked, though. The injection takes just a moment!

Be sure to let your mom's dentist know --- dentists need to know about PROLIA injections for their dental records.

Several years ago I was told by Oncology nurse that our bodies will only absorb 500 units of calcium at a time. Anything over that is expelled in urine. She further related that I should space out the consumption during the day. Which I was not doing. Took 1,200 at one time each day.

Thanks for the replies. I thought there might be a problem getting it done during the week between Christmas and New Years day, but got her scheduled for the injection on Dec. 28th at her Primary Care Doctor's office.
