Testosterone return after 10+ years...

Hi all, 10-12 years after having PC, and all this time having low to no testosterone and low or no PSA, my father just had a blood test last week that showed his testosterone levels have surprisingly returned back to a near normal level, and with that a very small rise in his PSA reading.
He has no other symptoms that I am aware of.
He was treated 10+ years ago with IMRT, so prostate was not removed.
My thoughts are that his testosterone just happened to have finally come back online, and it is naturally 'feeding' any tiny bit of prostate tissue that is still alive, and thus some PSA is being produced..
He is going to check with his rad oncologist that treated him just in case, but my thoughts are prob nothing to worry about.
Anyone else have this happen?

Gibson, depends. Can you give us his PSA history or how much of a rise he experienced? A tiny rise could just be normal fluctuations, especially considering that he still has a prostate. And many factors could affect including lab to lab fluctuations so ask about that as well.
It’s interesting that after so long, his T has come back spontaneously. That’s good news.

This is really strange; I wonder whether there has been some miscommunication between the medical world and your Dad.

Not sure. I think his family doc that did the blood tests is going to set up an appointment for him with his urologist to review, so he'll prob get the numbers again at that time, within a few weeks. Getting in to see a specialist here in Canada can take some time....

Do you know if he had any androgen deprivation along with his radiation? Sometimes that can cause low T for years after the treatment is finished, and it doesn't always return to normal levels for everyone. But, usually, if you are going to recover at all it will happen in less than two years. A decade is pretty unusual.

Yes he had Lupron as part of his treatment. I'm not sure how often he has had blood work done, but at least once a year, so I guess the testosterone probably started showing up over the past year......not positive.

Interesting. We just spoke to my dads urologist about this today. His info is in the signature but he had his last Lupron shot in August of 2018. His PSA was .18 Feb 2020, <.13 in May, .14 on Dec 11, .28 Dec 29 from different lab, .34 back at original lab Jan 15, 2021. The urologist suggests we wait a month and he test PSA and testosterone at that time. I believe he’s hoping that the PSA is about the same or close, and plateaus out, and that the testosterone is back to normal, then he’d likely do Lupron again for a bit. Otherwise, if the PSA has gone up a good amount, and testosterone is low, we are likely looking at PC somewhere else. He said at that point dad can take the Lupron again or we can wait for PSA to get to 1 and do the PC specific scan to try and see if anything has popped up. That would definitely be a tough decision. The thought of waiting for it to continue to rise is terrifying.
