Hi Guys:

Your mods were a little late to the party yesterday where one member in particular went off the rails with his overly political posts. Those posts have now been removed. For everyone's reference, here is the HW rule on politics:

6. No posts of copyrighted material, lengthy articles, or posts of an overtly political or religious nature (ie. proselyting).

Our dear late friend and moderator, 142, had a very strict interpretation of this rule. He was black and white on this: NO POLITICS PERIOD. Frankly that made it a pretty easy moderation.

Your current group of mods has chosen to give a little slack and obviously we don't always get it right. It's in the eye of the beholder what is "overtly" or what is "proselytizing". But we have tried to allow some discourse within the boundaries of how we understand these words. What happened yesterday was obviously over the line and we are sorry we didn't get to it more quickly.

Anyway, we request that we all remember that first and foremost we are a prostate cancer support group. Let's continue to welcome new members, provide our best advice and support each other. We will continue to try and moderate around the politics and allow some OT discussions because, well, it's GFMPH.

You are never going to eliminate political and religion speak...folks need to engage...and folks thats politics...period...what they do not need is to fuse into cliques...tribalism...obviously this takes time...and like everything else we and our polis (google and dont cherry pick meanings...blend them as one would biases)...are all works in progress on the tale of beliefs and that which be lies our self created destinies...one thing moderators should never do(imo)is to presume to read minds for "easier" moderating...you wanted the position work it and give folks the bene fit of the doubt in favor of the positive not the negative...working the brain in a way that can discern when positive implies negative and negative implies positive...as the saying goes..."no one said it would be "easy" I trust this post will not be too interesting so as to be edited away with a stroke of a very broad chisel... PS another point on bans edits deletions is that they should not be considered either a negative or a positive...it is all about different perspectives...everyone sees the world in a different way... I see them as confirmation of self...no more no less...It is no coincidence...that writers...poets...all artists...are the most edited banned deleted individuals in all institutions...surpassed only by the smallest minority of all...one person...period...and btw...with good intentions...healingwell in its managing operatives is very political...ya know why?....be cause engagement of any kind is political...period..." ya can run but ya can't hide " from that truth...me...I'm gonna relish this era...its the only era I'm in...and will not quibble with silliness...readers who are lazy readers...need not apply/does not apply to

As everyone who has been here for a while knows, we loosened up on the rules for quite a while, out of respect for the stress we’ve all been under. It’s tempting, and the inclination often is to, let things go if they are subtle and low key. First, I’d like to say, the recent offenses were anything but subtle. Second, the political climate is highly charged right now and that’s why those kinds of posts will only lead to trouble.

I think we all need to not forget that while many of us have become friends, some real life and some virtual, which sort of makes OT posts a natural part of the ebb and flow, this is first and foremost a Prostate Cancer support forum.
We’ve had more than a few new members recently that have arrived in need of help, calming, and support. I for one think that’s the best place to direct our energies.
Just had to say my piece. Let’s move forward in harmony, be constructive in helping others and learning from each other at the same time, and get our political rocks off elsewhere.

Seriously , I will tell you this much, posts with the title“ It's a new era, with new Hope” on a board where people are facing real life/death kinds of decisions and situations....how is that thread even still up?

Can you guys delete an entire thread or just lock it and selectively edit posts within it?

All however is not lost. Look at the other threads that truly dominated the last two days. Some seriously good advice was dispensed to people who we have never met....and not a single soul cared who anyone voted for.

...and I will again add that 142 and I discussed the wide variety of religious and NON religious members we have here from all over the world. We represent a great variety of cultures, practices and philosophies so - while some of us feel very strongly about our personal beliefs - others of us do not want or need to have those rammed down our throats either overtly or covertly. We appreciate the mods attempt to cap that off.

Personally, I am here to learn about stuff like the ORIOLE study that has directly impacted how I am dealing with this fatal disease. If I had not encountered this information on this site posted by my fellow members, I would not have pursued the treatments that I am currently receiving. (Those will be finished in 2 weeks and 1 day). My new RO beleives he can kill this cancer and I can quit Eligard and Xtandi in 1 year.

Getting rid of a cancer that other medical professionals told me was incurable, getting off of drugs that make me feel like crap and cost upwards of $11,000/month - THAT is why I am here. I am NOT here to read about your voting preferences or your particular holy book/religion/deity. Those are completely irrelevant to me and way off topic. I just do not want to read about those things. I am much more concerned with *ahem* 'healing well'.

Glad I missed it. I am so. very. tired. of politics and division. I appreciate you guys for a doing a very tough and often thankless job.

I've been trying to stay out of this but some of you guys are really tripping. Some of you are making much ado about nothing.

It was a simple post expressing hope for the future on multiple levels. There's not a word or intent criticising anyone. It's HOPE, for many things ahead. Interpret the post any way you want, but some of you are way out in left field.

Enough already.
