OT: Shot Clock

I'm still waiting on it. In my line of work I would have qualified for early shots, but my coworkers and I are all working from home now. To my dismay, some of my coworkers claimed their "special" status to get the shots anyway. Sigh.

I'm patiently waiting for my rightful turn, but it seems it will be a long time. I don't know if I should appreciate the difficulties of such a massive task, or if the whole thing has been botched. Maybe it's somewhere in the middle.

I have an appt for 1st shot on 2./16 at 3:15. Moderna shot.

Getting 1st dose tomorrow and was told I'll be given a return date for the 2nd dose, so I voted for the 2nd option.

I called the Duke Hospital Hotline the first day vaccines opened to >65 yr here in NC (around mid Jan.). They had just run out of appointments and I was put on the waiting list. Then they ran out of vaccine. Got a call a couple of days ago to schedule.

Tomorrow I'll cancel an appointment I had gotten through a different (county) Covid hotline for a March 19th first dose I was able to schedule when I didn't hear back about the waiting list.

Our health provider also has a scheduling service through their portal, but even they weren't able to set up a site here, and their other sites are in cities that are quite a drive away.

I see Walgreen's and CVS have been approved for vaccine distribution (you can sign up for Walgreen vaccine alerts) -- but neither is here yet.

Update: Got first dose (Pfizer) this morning along with appointment for return date in 3 weeks.

My wife (who has had both doses of the Pfizer vax - RN) told me that she heard from others at work today that CVS should be up and running with their program this week in Northern NJ.

i received my first shot (pfizer) on saturday and get the second shot on the 28th

Our county is not even making appointments due to the demand. A few of the grocery stores also provide it but they also have stopped taking appointments until we get more supply. I was at two different doctors yesterday and is each case they have only received enough doses for their staff. The providers open their website for two weeks of scheduling and they are gone in moments.

Thankfully our county has been only modestly affected by COVID and I understand the state is allocating doses based on infection/death rates.

I received my second Moderna shot last week; one more week until my full protection kicks in. I will still follow the guidelines for protecting my fellow citizens but am SO GRATEFUL that my wife and I are close to being extremely unlikely to get COVID and having a near 100% probability of not getting a severe case. Whew!

And, after a rocky start, I've gotta say Florida is doing a pretty decent job of getting shots in the arms of seniors.

P.S. My wife and I seemed to have broken the code on how to get appointments at Publix having made appointments now for almost 20 of our friends. Good to pay it forward after a friend who emailed us early in the game so we could sign up early before the crowds knew about it.

We had the first Moderna injection and are scheduled for the second.

My wife and I got our first shot (Moderna) January 30. Very minor arm discomfort at the injection site probably less than a normal flu shot. I think the CDC can do a better job getting these vaccines approved. I’m glad they’re not the one in charge of creating and producing the vaccine.

The CDC seems to be granting emergency use approval fairly quickly. The scientists making the decisionsl need time to review the data, ask questions, and get answers. Given the new vaccine-development technologies, the fact that so many will be getting these vaccines, and that the normal approval process is being very shortened, I think they are doing a good job. For what can go wrong, just remember thalidomide. Also, the first polio vaccine was contaminated with SV40, a monkey virus which, fortunately, did not have serious consequences for us humans.

My wife got her first dose last week through the county health department, since she's an R.N. I drove her to the drive-through vaccination site at the county fairgrounds, where we ended up in a line of cars half a mile long. It took over an hour to reach the fairgrounds commercial building, where a bay door finally opened and about 50 cars filed into four lanes that had been set up inside the building. The eligible people in those cars were all vaccinated in about 10 minutes, and we all pulled out of the building so 50 more cars could come in. Pretty impressive. I tried to talk them into vaccinating me, but they were only doing people in 1A, and I'm 1B.
As for me, I managed to find a vaccination opportunity at an area Walgreens and was vaccinated yesterday with the Moderna vaccine. My arm is a little sore, but that's all. Both of us are scheduled for a second dose at the appropriate interval and at different locations. She got the Pfizer vaccine, I got Moderna. Similar reactions so far. We're feeling very fortunate, but I think the lesson is that these opportunities often require hours of work and searching on various websites.
