It is very strange that this uro didn't do a DRE considering it was your first visit to him. A uro will want an initial estimate of your prostate's size, consistency, symmetry, any nodules or indurations, any pain or tenderness, etc. Also, can he know whether there are future changes only if he has his notes from a baseline assessment.
After my TURP for BPH my uro changed me from annual to semi-annual visits; however, he said he needed to do a DRE only yearly. This, however, was after a long history of DREs. Knowing what I now know, if this had happened to me, I would look for another uro.
