Clock, the same outreach is going on here, and I respond to the emails, but every time I get the reply that all appointments are full and not taking new ones. Our CVS and Walgreens have been out of supply for a month. One grocery that had limited supply just got more last Friday, but on Saturday when I was in the store said all doses were taken and not even taking a waiting list. Another grocery that I never shop at has some supply each week, but is limiting to their loyalty card members first.

I still cannot believe Florida is doing so well in this vaccine distribution. Despite some carping about favoritism for the wealthy zip codes, the fact is that any 65+ Floridian who wants the vaccine can get it. There are definitely some local imbalances so people may have to drive an hour or two but the vaccine can definitely be had for those who want it. We have Publix, Winn Dixie, CVS, Walmart, Sam's Club and the local departments of health all with a bit of a different interface but, hey, we can get it and for that I'm thankful.

We live in an older neighborhood where most of our neighbors are elderly widows/widowers. Navigating the websites was more than most could manage. We took all their information so we could help them get signed up. I also joined a local FaceBook group that sent out alerts whenever one of the member found available appointment. The local Publix Grocery Store had just opened up their site. I was able to get appointments for Randy, for myself and for 6 of our neighbors. The next day, one of out neighbors that I hadn't been able to reach (84 years old) called and asked if I could get her an appointment. They were all booked up at that point. I gave her my appointment. It took about a week for me to find another appointment for myself. If you look for a local FB group, it may help in finding open appointments. As of right now, everybody on our block who is eligible has had both doses.

Paxton....you totally ignored the point I made about minority vis a vis non minority.., one can not hide from one's self with words...which is the beauty of words...they expose and redeem at the same time...we are all frustrated with the whole pandemic..."take the pain" Sargent Barnes...Platoon... I will now be accused of fermenting discord on this thread...so be it...you really should read...even study the whole post...alas......again the more folks that get vaccinated the better... I see a lot of folks discussing the problem but nary a one offers any solution other than tribalism and finger pointing...disguised weakly as truth...no more on this from me...it just feeds the weeds...I accept all blame for all things...but that would not be enough...would it...I said...would it...of course it wouldn't...Glory...logo...pogo and all that jazz...

OK, logo, let me try to explain myself another way.

Chicago is divided into its North and South sides by a street named Madison Avenue.

When you look up Covid testing stations operated by the city and county, there are about 25 on the south side. There used to be ONE on the north side, but they closed it.

When you look up Covid vaccination sites operated by the city and county, there about 12 on the south side. There are 2 on the north side.

Polulation is about 60% south side, 40% north side.

What's fair and equitable about the distribution of resources?

Got first Moderna shot yesterday. Ache at injection site but no other side effects yet.
I Was lucky as I got it at my local mom and pop drug store. I just said "can you let me know when you get the vaccine " they said " come in Monday "
I go back March 30th for second shot.
I've heard NYC is doing well distributing the vaccine

The weirdness continues. As I relayed, Cheryl and I now got our first shot and have our 2nd shot scheduled. Fine. Yesterday, we left the house on a RARE errand. We came back and there was a message on our answering machine. It was a vaccine invitation for Cheryl from the hospital list. They gave her a # to call back. She has tried about 10 times since then to tell them she is all set. Half the time she goes thru a lengthy directory and is put on hold. She hung up after 15-20 minutes each time. The other half, it's a recording telling her calls are overwhelming volume-wise and to call back later...CLICK. Think of how irate we would be -- how maddening it would be -- if we were still trying to get a vaccination slot. Incidentally, we have been strictly quarantining. We may be gone 60 minutes in 10 days. Just our luck...

Today, my brother-in-law goes to the hospital to visit his sister. He is asked if he has gotten the vaccine or is signed up yet. He answers "no." They signed him up for Sunday.

LUCK is always an element in life...but...c'mon.

I'm going to have to wait awhile to get mine. I'm glad y'all have gotten yours because many states are in a rush to go back to business as usual, and some are actually doing so.

So last Saturday we were able to get our first shot on a days notice at one of the megasites here in NJ.

Previously I had luck setting up an appointment at a local Rite Aid via their website. My cousin, who qualifies to be in group 1A (she is actually on oxygen) has been struggling to get an appointment. So I called the local Rite Aid today and asked what would happen if I showed up with my cousin to get her vaccinated at my appointment on Saturday (I have not canceled it yet).

I was told no, they would not do that. The best we can do is me cancel the appointment at the same time she could try and grab the slot (we will be attempting that tonight).

I asked why.

"NJ State rules" and then she apologized like 50 times because as a pharmacist she felt horrible. I could hear the anguish in her voice. She felt crushed. A trained pharmacist is not empowered to make simple judgement calls. <sigh>

Meanwhile in suburban Philadelphia....the wait continues......Maybe the JJ vaccine will start showing up, rumor has it that PA is going to get a bunch of it.

Whoever said that NYC is doing well at it....my daughter who lives in Brooklyn (yes, she's 32, so way down the list) had this to say: It's a crap show

Friend of mine in NY, age 49, got the first Pfizer shot today, along with his wife, age 50. Their PcP apparently had some kind of connections. Without going into details, it seemed shady to me. I'm very glad that they got the vaccine. But its not right.

I guess sometimes it pays to live in a small town. In our 20,000 town here in Georgia, we have 4 local plus Walmart that are giving shots. I called three local places, 2 pharmacies and hospital to make appt and they said would call when they got a shipment it. They all called the same day and I took the one that called first at the hospital and felt comfortable in that setting in case of reaction as they ask you to stay for 15 min. They called 2 weeks later to set up my second shot so both the wife and I are vaccinated. Everyone here who wants one in the in the over 65 age group are getting shots if they want them.


The pharmacist we know said they are getting calls from other counties and even other states. They can give shots if you live in Ga but not other states as each state has its own protocols of who are getting shots at this time.

My brother living in a larger city had to travel to a smaller county and even then it was given at a farmer's market parking lot.

Well, things are still a big mess here, but we are doing OK with it. I was able to get my patient record re-activated at a suburban teaching hospital that has vaccine. I get my first shot (Pfizer) on Thursday, March 11. Meanwhile, the state opened its second (only second) northside/suburban vaccination site and my wife was able to win The Hunger Games and get a spot for tomorrow. This site is using the J&J vaccine, so she will only need one shot. Whew!

Meanwhile, as I was mentioning that the city/county/state has about 10-12 vaccination sites on the south side but only one, with a second on the way, on the north side. Well, the county canceled that second north side site, so the state had to move in and add a north suburban site that the northsiders can safely get to. The situation here in Chicago, north side versus south side, is truly "mind over matter." They don't mind, and we don't matter. I hope people keep this in mind when they vote in the future.

Got my 2nd "Fauci Ouchie" yesterday. I plan to continue to mask in public places for the foreseeable future. Why not? Besides Covid, I've avoided the usual colds, flu and other respiratory viruses and haven't felt healthier in 40 years. Masks are the new seat belts.

Here in Montana they just opened the list to those 65 and older. My wife went online and got us appointments for next Friday. Lots of open slots. I talked to two people in the past week who said they aren’t getting the vaccine because it’s a “scamdemic” and can’t understand why I would get it. I told them that it looks like some countries may require proof of vaccine to enter and I plan to do some international travel next year and so a shot it is.

Florida Update: Most nursing home folks who want vaccinations have gotten them. Most sites that give vaccines are now open to 65+, 16-65 with vulnerabilities (doctor's form completed), 50+ cops and firefighters, healthcare/EMS. And...CVS is now also open to ALL teachers and staff K-12 and daycare. Our HOA just announced plans with the County to have an event for the 65+ who haven't been able to get shots; these are mainly the elderly without computers or who can't really travel far.

In other words, FL is pretty much open for vaccinating everyone. I predict that by sometime in April we will offer the vaccine to any that want it. This gives me hope that the end is near!

My 93 year Dad walked over to Walgreens in Hinsdale IL to ask when his appointment for his 2nd Pfizer shot would be on Sunday. The pharmacist said it would be late in the day but he had a couple of cancellations and could give him his 2nd shot in 10 minutes if he wanted. He said why not and is done now and feels fine. Don’t tell Dr Fauci....

Our governor is Tim Walz. They call him Tim Jung Walz around here after a year of this stuff.
