PSA rise greater than 2ng/ml/yr over 4 consecutive PSA measures - explanation?

While reading my clinical notes, I came across this statement and I think I understand what this means, but I'm hoping that those smarter on this board can share an opinion. I get the concept of PSA doubling over 3 years, for example, which has been discussed to me in the past, but this statement seems wordy to me.

Not smarter than you so not sure what is being referred to or in context with other criteria.

PSA doubling could easily meet this requirement also, ie: 2, 4, 8, 16. I suspect the concept is larger steady rise (velocity) vs. up/down fluctuations. If one truly had an annual increasing PSA of 2, 4, 6, 8, I think most would agree that it would be trouble.

It is almost like stating the obvious to me. I would think that 1, 2, 3, 4 over four annual tests would be almost as troubling as greater increases. Doubling is more concerning as it tends to represent exponential biological growth but large steady growth is not more reassuring to me.

It looks to me like your PSADT is more than a year, and therefore not considered critical. Mine is two weeks, if yours goes under one year, then the Docs ears will perk up.

Basically one of the several things that is being looked at as part of my AS journey.
I suspect given where my PSA lives, I guess when it moves up consistently in each subsequent PSA draw, it'll be obvious.

Your 2/20 PSA = 2.7 ng/ml
6/20 = 3.1
9/20 = 2.9
12/20 = 4.0
3/21 = 4.5
Hence, you are close to some 'rule' that Emory finds important regarding the management of AS patients.
I believe that you came to the same conclusion in the meantime...

I do not know the basis for this 'rule', but would not hesitate to ask.

And then I see that my PSA is in the same place as it was 4 years ago. I don't do rollercoasters in real life.
