This week is the 8 year anniversary of my date with the robot at age 41 with Gleason 4+3.

Thankfully, my PSA remains undetectable. (Full PSA history linked below.) ED is minimal (an elastic “¢o¢k ring” is helpful to achieve maximum hardness, but things are quite usable without the ring) and leaking is a rarity limited to a few drips now and then.

I still read this forum often, but don’t post much these days. My thoughts and prayers go to everyone who is actively fighting this beast.

You helped me a lot when i got here newly diagnosed, and so i am especially happy for your good fortune.
Here's to many more years of undetectables.

That is fantastic news! I am around the same age as you (48) and am two weeks post-op. Hoping I can one day post an eight year anniversary message that's as good as yours!

At age 40, a blood test in my regular annual check-up by my primary care physician found PSA of 9. (DRE was 100% normal. Zero family history of PC.) The high PSA started the ball rolling which eventually included a biopsy and diagnosis.

As we all know, the current guidance in the medical community is to not do PSA tests until age 50. If my primary care physician followed those guidelines I might not have discovered the PC until after the cancer had spread and bone mets caused bone pain - at which point the situation would have been much more worrisome (to say the least).

Great news gedman!

Agree with you on the PSA test guidelines. We've seen plenty of guys here with PCa before the "magic" age of 50 and even at 50 some doctors seem to shy away from PSA tests. Like you, I received blood tests every year as part of an annual physical. During my annual meeting with my doctor at age 50 I asked about what I knew regarding reaching 50. Regarding the first colonoscopy my doctor agreed and said they would schedule it for me. When I asked about the PSA test, my doctor asked me if I had any history of prostate cancer in my family. When I told him "no", he said that I didn't really need a PSA test then. I asked what the PSA test entailed and he explained it was a just a blood test. I said since I'm getting blood drawn for my annual blood tests anyway, why not do the PSA? We did, and sure enough, mine was high and led to finding my PCa.
