Elsa's paying us a visit here in N. central Florida

Not that big a deal here in Gainesville. It's about 11 AM right now, as I sit here at my keyboard, typing, while looking out the window at a very heavy rain, and skies clouded almost to the point of darkness.

But only about a 25-30 MPH wind right now, and much more of a "sheeshing" wind sound outside than a "howl."

Fortunately, I had already done some yard work a few weeks ago, trimming out some deadwood from the yard's trees, so only a few small-to-medium-size branches down right now, and no damage. And it'll all be gone in a few hours.

Kinda small potatoes when compared to some of the hurricanes I have seen blow through here.

However, it's always best to remember that even a relatively minor weather event like this one has the power to do damage.Trees will fall and crush a few cars. There will be some flooding in the lower parts of town.

But then it wasn't a Cat5, either.

Despite all that, the first ears of Iowa SWEET CORN have just hit the markets and roadside "SWEET CORN STANDS" ----- and there's a chance of some timely rains in the forecast ...

Batten down the hatches, 81GyGuy ---- and we'll hope storm ELSA doesn't linger long!

Ah, yes --- sweet corn season is just beginning, and summer tomatoes are great for making homemade salsa --- or my favorite --- a summertime bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise sandwich on toasted bread!

Many churches host fish fry dinner events during Lent ---- and many small town fire departments host an annual fish fry dinner --- a popular community event & way to raise funds.

Some folks have a fish fry with neighbors and friends ...
