Chromogranin A and CEA markers

Hello,
I have a rising chromogranin A (132) and rising CEA(9.7) which they are making me very nervous. Has anyone dealt with these 2 markers please?does it indicate bad prognosis? I did a colonoscopy 10 months ago and it was negative for cancer. Does anyone know of steps to do to address this issue? Does it mean it mean pc might have turned into neuroendocrine cancer?

AK - Can’t help you too much with these. From what I learned with my wife’s breast cancer recurrence, tumor marker tests like CEA are not the most helpful for diagnosing cancer but much more helpful for monitoring those with cancer, not unlike a PSA. Basically, you have to discuss with your doctors and see if those numbers are worthy of more investigation. Why are these being tested for in the first place as they are not part of any standard blood testing?

AK, my response is similar to Mumbo, I know that CEA! Even in the setting of monitoring for cancer recurrence is extremely sensitive and n. A suit o inflammation, virus, bacterial infection, injury, anywhere in the body.

Don’t know much about the other.

Thank you, Mumbo and Pratoman. I wish if I didn’t know about them. My MO ordered them and I can’t get an explanation as to why they keep going up or what should I do about them. They must mean something to him. He is a very good Doc. at MSK. It’s just another thing for me to worry about and as we all know, the mind keeps thinking about bad outcomes.
