Why isn't radiation available for this case?

As you can see I'm an old timer here who hasn't been here for awhile. I was one of the early guys who had TFT successfully done 13+ year ago. Thus I'm really out of the loop now on PCA. I'm asking this for a friend who has been diagnosed with a gleason 7. He's on Kaiser and they're telling him he's ineligible for any kind of radiation and must undergo radical surgery at the age of 77. When I left here it seemed that many doctors were advising few over the age of 70 with his numbers do surgery. So what is going on here?

There is nothing new that happened while you were away. In fact the nccn guidelines recommend radiation or monitoring if life expectancy is 10 years or less. For more than 10 years the nccn guidelines indicate a choice between surgery and radiation.

It sounds like your friend needs to involve the radiation oncologist to help with appeals.
