Finished SBRT and generally faired well in side effects except for feeling tired and urinary urgency and weak stream. Doctor wrote for a "dose park" of steroids for the urinary symptoms and it helped although I do not like how they make me feel. He wrote a second script
and I may take them a second time.
The runs are pretty bad and somewhat painful. I go just about
every hour but did get several hours of sleep without soiling myself. A lot came out but lately, not too much maybe because I'm not eating much and pretty much emptied out.
I'm taking buprenorphine for chronic pain so since it's an opiate, I ought to be bound up not having the run's.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Some plain baked chicken breast with no skin and white rice always seems to help, a bland diet by any other name. Some eggs with white toast and so on. Don’t hesitate to eat the right foods.
Radiation can cause bowel issues for a while. Never had SBRT so not sure how it works but IMRT caused some minor issues that resolved fairly quickly, nothing as bad as you are describing though.

Thanks Mumbo
I was thinking plain chicken and white rice, I love oatmeal and may have that. I also enjoy yogurt which may help.
I'll have oatmeal later and maybe plain scrambled eggs. I could not decide when I went to the supermarket so I got a small seafood salad on a little roll. The mayo in it may not be the best thing.
So yeah chicken tomorrow or maybe scallops over rice.

After radiation --- nine weeks' worth --- I knew I needed to avoid fast food & fried food.
Wholesome foods --- on the bland side --- are your best bet.
It takes a while for your system to regulate --- and my radiologist reminded me that internal healing takes a while.
He called it "invisible healing" --- and it simply takes time.
Time is your friend --- rest as needed ---- stay busy mentally --- stay as active as you can ----and rest in between.
With the digestive irregularity you described, remember that healthy HYDRATION is important, too.
Sip ice water with a couple of frozen lemon wedges tossed in ---- or enjoy small servings of Sprite or Canada Dry or Seagram's brand ginger ale --- they are sold in tiny cans now, at the store.
I had to set an earlier bedtime, after treatments wrapped up. I was determined to go on my daily walks, and did so --- but that earlier bedtime and occasional naps helped me.
Remember --- each day --- you are slowly healing --- and now on the road to recovery and recuperation.
One day at a time ----

Never trust a fart! Lol I heard that in a movie and that is sage advice.
Yes it will go away and since I am usually constipated, it is a strange thing to deal with. I used buprenorphine fr my pain and am usually constipated. I take care of it with senna and bisacodyl .
I will trust that it will get better

Had a decent night of sleep with no bathroom visits.
I think I'll use the steroid "dose pack" (Methypredneselone) for the urinary issue.
Rectal area is sore and I get urges to go but seem to be able to hold it.
Still tired but in good spirits

I also added naps curled up on the floor in front of the fireplace... The heat on my back felt good...

I had a 10-day course of SBRT a few years ago. I was fine until the 7th session when the bowels turned softer...softer...YUK, big D.
RO said it might take 2 weeks but assured me it was temporary. I turned the corner a few days later, but for me it took about
10 days.

Thank you compiler
It is a little better today thus far, Yesterday it was massive amounts and quite often. Last night and today, it's very tiny amounts yet it still comes.
I noticed that sitting on my butt hurts a lot. If I sit just right or "clench" a little, it ease's.
I started the Medro-Dosepak for the urinary frequency. It makes me feel jittery but it works on the urine flow with the added bonus of helping my joint pains. it cuts down inflammation.

Glen - Congratulations on completing SBRT. You are now a post-toastie!
You say that you are taking a couple of different laxatives to control medication-induced constipation. Might be a thought to temporarily cut back on the usage of laxatives if you are going too much, too often.
On the rectal pain (tenesmus), I also had this, but mine was very minor. You might check with your local pharmacy or medical device shop to see about
a "doughnut" cushion. These allow you to sit without putting pressure on the rectum or perineum. It won't take away any existing discomfort, but it might allow you to sit without adding any additional pain.
All-in-all, it sounds like you are right on track now. Glad you've made it through, my friend.

Thank you paxton for this and all that you have given in the way of information and support.
I've stopped my senna and bisacodyl for obvious reasons. My routine is to use as few bisacodyl's as possible which is usually two or three plus 5 senna tablets-sometimes the senna has an added stool softener but I forgot the name. Fact is I'm on a very large dose of an opioid. It's in a special class known as "agonist-antagonist" which mitigates the high (in my case extremely high) problem of tolerance. Most users of buprenorphine use it to wean off other opiates and the starting dose is 16mg that goes up according to effect to usually 24mg with those who have been on massive amounts of heroin and methadone, as high as 32mg but that is usually the exception.
That said, I've been at the top at 32mg for about
4 years now. I started after weaning off morphine and oxycodone at 16mg in 2008
So yes I've gone up in dose but do not expect to go any higher but it does cause severe constipation.
So far with my regimen it has worked out just fine.
So when I return to normal I'll adjust my senna dose.
BTW my urinary frequency has already improved with the steroids and I do not feel nervous as of yet.
I was not aware that steroids could help in this area. I also do not want to use them more then I have to.

I've been back to normal.
Only symptoms are urgency and mild discomfort when sitting. Stream is weaker but not too bad.
Happy with the outcome.
I'll know in time how successful. I suppose PSA testing down the road.

Yes thanks Cyclone. We are having the Christmas party but the big deal my wife planned for was a piano recital/practice.
That was last Sunday and was wonderful.
We planned for 22 but with COVID back it was 16 people. The apartment renovation is complete save for Minor items like a custom build dresser. The warehouse is in Queens and was flooded in a storm.
As far as side effects, just when things are going well, yesterday and today I have blood and clots in the urine. Not sure why

Hello logoslidat
Yes I assume it's normal but so late in the healing process seems abnormal. It's also not every void just periodically.
My guess is that there was damage caused by the radiation maybe burned tissue that scabbed and is breaking off.
Making me curious about
seeing any pathology of Post radiation tissue. I suppose it's actually burned. Now to Google images.

BTW I remember you saying that you saw Frankie Valli at Coney island so I'm guessing you are in the NYC area?
Just curious. I live on the upper Westside and Wappingers falls Dutchess county.
Since he rescheduled for March in Kingston, we decided to not go but go when he comes back to the city. Think he's doing Radio city.
