Hi guys... lots of info here on peeing a lot at night post prostate removal... question is, why am I peeing all night and all morning, a lot, when I stop drinking water at 4:00 in the afternoon? (surgery 3 weeks ago/ drink one quart a day) I seem to pee out the days liquid by early evening, but it starts up at night, getting up about 5 times all night, then a big kidney dump all morning till about 9am. This seems to me to be more of a kidney dump issue than a prostate surgery issue... maybe there's a medication to calm down the dump?? I need more sleep

Just a thought based on my post-surgery experience is that the catheter irritated the bladder and the “alarm” signaling the need to go is a bit more sensitive than before.

Yes, I do have the urgency at night and morning, but what's strange is the volume of pee. Again, I drink about a quart of water throughout the day, tapering off to zero by 4:00. By 10:30 bedtime, I'm all peed out. Then around midnight it starts up and by morning I'm dumping huge volumes of clear pee every hour. It just seems backwards.
This also just started. I'm at day 18 post surgery and was only peeing once a night till 3 nights ago. Racking my brain for a fix... Is it salt intake? Citrus? Too much Tylenol? I just need more rest and must chill out. If it's transitory, I'll survive... just hard in the moment

Hi Scott. You may be retaining fluid in your legs. I also reduce my fluid intake b4 6:00 pm, sometimes when I go to bed I will have a full bladder again in 2 hours then 2 or 3 hours later also. If I wear my compression socks several days in a row I can sleep 6 hours till needing to void. My RALP was in 2016 and had 23 lymph nodes removed at the same time. When you lay down the fluid doesn't have to travel uphill to the kidneys and rapidly fills the bladder sending you to the bathroom repeatedly. Dave

Thanks, Dave... I don't seem to have any swelling in legs, but you're on to something... my body is dumping fluids from somewhere... I'll look into this! Seems weird it just started 2 weeks after surgery, but whatever, like you say, I'm retaining fluid, I'll check with doc

Interesting thread--I have the same issue with nocturnia after my surgery. My urologist recommended a prescription for an antidiuretic, but I haven't opted for that yet.

Before my surgery in February 2021, I got up to go to the bathroom 1x a night maybe 1x time a week. Right after the catheter was removed I was getting up every 2 hours for weeks. I also had 23 lymph nodes removed and after about 2 weeks I noticed my left leg swelling and was diagnosed with lymphodema. I seem to have the lymphodema now under control and I'm getting up 1x a night 4-5 nights a week.

Wow, thank God... got some sleep last night, best night since surgery 18 days ago. Got up once to pee at 4am and didn't really need that. I changed two things... didn't drink so much water yesterday, about 32 ounces total, and stopped drinking at 3:00pm. I also stopped the Cialis doc gave me, I think it might have been jacking me up. Those 3 nights of peeing every hour were brutal, but I now feel like it was transitory. This prostatectomy was a major deal. Like a guy on the forum correctly stated, a lot of excited nerves in and around the belly and groin area that need to calm down before things can return to normal.

My Urologist just prescribed Oxybutynin for me. It’s to control an overactive bladder. Some nights I get up 3 times and others once. He said I could take up to 3 a day with the only side effect a dry mouth. He also said I could just take one before bed as I don’t really care how often I pee during the day. Took first dose last night and only got up once. Hope it works. I don’t think I wake up because I have to pee, I think I wake up from a deep sleep and say heck I might as well get up to pee now. I was curious if a sleeping pill might help but we’ll try this first.

I got sleep last night, thank God... Only got up once...cutting way back on the water, I also think it's a transitory thing, the surgery was intense on my mind and body, I'm praying thing start to calm down now. I never got up before, but who knows now with that lousy dam of a prostate I had, it's now such a straight shot to pee it's almost frightening. My wife laughs from bed, calls me her Stud. LOL!!!
