PC and tobacco use

Sorry for the new topic. Steve you should be congratulated for giving up smoking. I was a baseball player for many years when chewing tobacco was the cool thing to do. Every player on my college team chewed, even the coach. I can still remember the adds on TV that said, just a pinch between the cheek and gum for complete satisfaction. After my days of baseball it was the hardest habit to break by far. At my school where I taught, over the years, seven women got breast cancer. We thought it might be the water. It was tested and was cleared. All of them smoked. My sister smoked and had breast cancer. My wife has breast cancer and never smoked, but grew up in a house full of smokers. To any and all, I know that PC runs in the family heredity wise. I wonder how many of those cases could be linked to tobacco use individually or growing up in smoke filled house. If this topic has been discussed, I couldn’t find it. On a side note, my father died in an accident when he was very young, so I don’t know if my PC is caused by heredity. Thanks a bunch.

As a kid growing up in the 1950s, I can confirm that universal tobacco smoking was not only entirely acceptable back then, but even encouraged in subtle ways.

For example, if doctors smoked, it must not be all that harmful to your health, right?

But any hook would do. As in commercial 2, with the pretty blond blowing cigarette smoke right at the camera.

Ridiculous now, but quite the norm back then.

I've always been suspect of the notion for the harm from secondhand smoke. I saw a study from 2020 saying that for every 52 smokers, one nonsmoker dies from secondhand smoke. I'm not sure how that even happens, especially these days. I think the groups whose existence is dedicated to eradicate smoking are over the top sometimes. They were even talking about the dangers of third hand smoke. Really?

I'm glad I've never been a smoker and I don't like breathing any kind of smoke, but some of this secondhand smoke stuff seems pretty shaky. If you get a big dose from second hand smoke wouldn't you become addicted to nicotine? I think there's plenty other pollutants in the air, soil, and water to worry about. I wonder what's leaching out of my plastic containers?

Speaking of doctors, a health care worker once told me that I might be surprised at how many docs chew nicotine gum all day long.

Oh well, just some rambling thoughts on a boring Tuesday afternoon.

I don't believe that second hand smoke is an issue... My nineteen year old cat slept in my lap while I smoked. The cat before her made it to 14 and died due to a fault at the vets office...

I'd think these small animals would have less chance to survive than a human... Course I could be way off base.

Not sure which is more subtle yet annoying...when I stop a thread in its track...or when I track a thread annoyingly without subtleties...no mind never matter...no matter never mind
