Any info on Dr. Alan Partin at Johns Hopkins?

Met with him yesterday.
My impression is that he is nearing the end of his surgical career.
Internet pic is like 10 yrs old as usual. lol.

Wondering if anyone has any good intelligence on him.

I don't know much about him other than that he has a very good reputation. Google "Partin Tables".

Yes, he has been around awhile, born in 1961. So should be in his prime. Regarding intelligence, what do you want to know specifically? What questions did you ask him about his experience and expertise that he didn’t answer?

Yes, he gave me a copy of the Partin Tables.
I noticed his name at the top.

He told me that he's done 5000 RPs. lol. (think alot of those are open RP).
Dude definitely knows his way around that neighborhood.

But he also told me the department head.. Allaf? Sets up the robotic machine and then he goes to town. After Allaf will remove the machine.

His nurse is pretty sharp and does alot for him, and seems protective of him.
Overall his hands looked ok, and he was steady. Looked coordinated. Mentally I didn't really detect anything wrong. Just a little slowness maybe?

I’ve been a JH urology patient for fifteen years, and receive their publications. He is very prominent and accomplished. He was not hesitant to learn and perform robotic surgeries. I have been getting fundraising appeals honoring him, which would make me think he plans to retire. But, he is a top class surgeon.

He recently announced that he is stepping down as Department Chair, but will continue seeing patients.
Back in May, after I was diagnosed, I had a consult with him. We had only gotten a few minutes into the appt when I explained about my Brugada Syndrome, and precautions that would be needed for surgery. At that point he shut me down and told me to forget about surgery and just do radiation.

Maybe you could do better, but I don't know where.

I'd rather have him overseeing my surgery than Allaf, and I've met with both.

But if you use an internet pic as an indicator, Allah and that tall nurse will win out.

My advise is get it done, BEFORE he retires or keels over ;-)

He told me in my case, if it were him, he’d have seeds. I said “The radiation Dr. just told me ‘We don’t do seeds.’” That pissed him off. He said, “You mean to tell me i can’t have seeds in my own hospital?” “That’s what they told me”. “We’ll, there’s a dozen places within 10 miles that’ll give you seeds. I’ll help ya find one.”

The Radiologist and Partin also got into it over my brother-in-law’s treatment. (G9)

Let’s just say…the man doesn’t lack for confidence in his abilities, and leave it at that.

So i can avoid him!

Yes, my impression is Partin is no smiling salesman like alot of docs. There’s a certain honesty in that i suppose.

Partin took his prostate out. (He was undetectable for 2 1/2 years). JH is doing spot radiation on his Mets (as they come up).

Partin’s skills are probably as good as there is. Their radiation dept we’ve been happy with as well. If I ever need SRT, JH is in my sights.

Micro mets.
Im reading mets come out earlier in the life of a tumor than was thought.

They do surgery alone (no adjuvant radiation) and that leaves the micro mets behind.
