The things one comes across while websurfing at 1AM.

Most likely everyone knows about and has probably seen"The Birds," the 1963 horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It was a very successful film and a very scary one.

Well, it seems that something similar to what happens in the film actually took place in real life in Houston, Texas back in 2020:

According to the article the occasional presence of these grackles (that's what they are, per web articles) in shopping centers and places is actually a recurrent phenomenon in Houston. But there is no mention on the web as to whether these "grackle attackles," as one article puts it, have ever resulted in any harm to humans.

Still, I imagine it would be pretty creepy to be walking out to one's car in the parking lot, to get in and drive home, and suddenly be greeted by a sight such as the above video presents.

Who knows, if this has been going on long enough in Houston, perhaps knowledge of it actually inspired the movie!

Been there done that in North Texas for decades... They poop all over everything... During happy hour, we used to do "bets" - aka pools to bet on what time they leave.

Some retailers put speakers on the roof that sound out Hawk/Eagle type of noises to scare them off... Didn't work.

I love grackles, beautiful birds especially in the sunlight.
I've never been attacked by one, but I have been dive bombed by Redwing Blackbirds (protecting their nests)

Down in Australia they have an issue with magpies dive bombing people.
Reminds me of the episode of Dick Van **** where little Richie keeps getting dive bombed by a bird.

And that reminds me of the Geico commercial of the couple living in the glass house being attacked by the "angry birds."

When I first took up running a long long time...started in park near where I lived...ever time as I was turn turn turning round the loop the byrds swooped down on me...the two-faced kine...from the show me state...Joplin...maybe!?...true story...word play...optional...

Ah, yes ... following his story of Norman Bates & The Bates Motel filmed in black & white in his thriller PSYCHO, Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS followed ... in color ... in 1963 ... with Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette, and Jessica Tandy.

A first-hand experience follows ...

My freshman year of college, I moved into a fairly spacious dorm room.

Located on the top floor of a five-story dormitory, overlooking "Campus Town" ---- where night life awaited me --- it seemed like an ideal dorm room.

Soon enough --- I learned that the tall tree which grew right in view of my dorm room window --- was "home" to a HUGE flock of large black crows!

Truly ... every branch was filled with crows that perched there ... endlessly squawking and cawing! It was INCESSANT!

Even author Edgar Allan Poe could not have envisioned such a tree as this one, when he wrote "The RAVEN" ...

Sleep was constantly interrupted ... the endless cawing was endlessly distracting.

We all nicknamed this tree "The PTERODACTYL Tree" --- and it became a landmark on campus.

The university building & grounds department tried a variety of mitigation efforts ... to no avail.

I believe it was a GINKO tree, of some sort, and it was determined by the botany department that crows are naturally attracted to this type of tree or its location near Campus Town ... where food scraps would abound.

In the end --- when all else failed --- and because the crows were creating a public nuisance on campus --- the tree was ultimately cut down!

A memorable experience from my freshman year at college!

At all my college reunions, we inevitably say ... "Hey, remember the 'PTERODACTYL TREE' when we started college?!!"
