One thing that I am concerned about is being on Lupron for 2 years. Rob, did you have more problems the longer you stayed on Lupron, or was it pretty consistent? The main problem I am having now is hot flashes.
I would say the first few months were the worst. After that I learned how to adapt. I would only wear button down cotton shirts so I could
open the front. Also I bought several folding Oriental fans on Amazon and try to always have one with me (including by my bedside). A wide brim hat or some papers would suffice in a pinch. I have fans
everywhere in the house and bought remote control adapters also on Amazon so I could control the fans with a single remote.
Probably the most significant step was getting on venlafaxine. My RO refused and prescribed Megace, a synthetic female hormone (progesterone). My GP did not want me on that as he said it can cause blood clots. I'd say the venlafaxine has reduced my hot flashes by 50%, in intensity as well as frequency and duration. But once on venlafaxine it is difficult to get off. My low T had caused me to become very,
very emotional and depressed, but that ended 2-3 years ago when the Lupron began to wear off and my testosterone gradually got up to 50-60, which is still very low, but enough to stabilize somewhat.
I had learned about
this med here on HW and it looks like I'll probably be taking venlafaxine (Effexor) for the rest of my life. It is a small price to pay for the serenity and stability that I have achieved over the past five years, especially after the hell I went thru during the early days. Good luck to you going forward.
