Wow, I'd never think it could be done out patient, but I know nothing about the procedure.
What hospital or facility are you having it done at?
I think my doc uses Chandler hospital since that's where my implant was done.
The surgeon told me that, from his experience, patients do much better out of the hospital. He pointed out that the hospital is overall an unpleasant place and it's almost impossible to get any sleep or recuperate -- so he's developed a protocol that eliminates the need for an overnight and it's working very well. The hospital for the surgery is Abrazo Arrowhead.
That being said, I assume there may be circumstances where an overnight is best. It may entirely depend on the patient's medical specifics. However, for most "routine" (I suppose) RALP procedures, the surgeon I'm using prefers his patients to go home or to a hotel rather than hang around the hospital, where you have tubes hanging out of you, a funny gown on, and five machines that go "beeeeeep!" all night.
