Of course it is important but not indicative of anything by itself. Equally important is you will be seeing your urologist in a month which is nothing in PCa time. A DRE, PSA retest with possibly Free PSA might be in order. Hang in there…

I think maybe treatment for the stress is as important as what to do about the numbers.

For me, they MRI was done before the biopsy. The urologist felt like it was a good idea, to see if anything looked suspicious and it is less invasive. Then when the MRI did show suspicious areas, they took additional samples in those areas while doing the biopsy.

So what if the MRI didn’t show suspicious areas ? Would they still have wanted the biopsy ?
Do they put you out to do the biopsy ?

If an MRI doesn't show suspicious areas then the biopsy is done by gathering random samples from all around the prostate. At least 12 samples should be taken. Re putting you out, different docs have different approaches. Some keep you awake and use local numbing. My doc believed in his patients experiencing minimal pain so used IV anesthesia for the biopsy. Ask your doc and insist on your preference if you get to that stage.

Anybody could have cancer with no signs of it. You could. I could. All of us could.

I can’t say you don’t have cancer nor can I say anyone else doesn’t have cancer.. But, if you’ve got prostate cancer, your PSA isn’t showing it.

But you’ve come to the right place. A lot of people here are hyper-vigilant. That’s a somewhat common left-over result in people who’ve had it (but certainly not all).

I hope you can find some peace of mind about your health.

cvc, many here have said not to worry. You mentioned your concern for the PSA jump many times now. Let’s look ahead to June. Between now and then there is nothing you can do, unless you can get an earlier appointment. So, you finally get to the June appointment. The doc might or might not find during the DRE that the prostate is bigger. Your weak stream, if bothersome could be fixed with a Turp. Or, if not bothersome, nothing done. If the PSA again has increased, the doc might want a biopsy. The biospy itself is really a nothing to worry about. It does give a better picture of what is going on. If cancer is found, there are many treatments that result in many more years to come. If no cancer is found then regular PSA tests will continue. You mention your brother has PC. What treatments is he getting to fight the disease? What are his recommendations for you? I never had anyone I could bounce my questions off concerning PC. Just one day I was told I had PC and these were my choices. I didn’t worry, I just followed what my RO told me would be best for me. Cvc, we all have cancer here on this forum. We deal with it the best we can and are living our lives to the fullest. We help each other through the highs and lows. I suggest you live life to the fullest now. Hopefully you don’t have PC, but if you do, we will all be here for you. My best to you.

My brother doesn’t seem to take an interest and most questions I ask him re; his PSA etc he hasn’t a clue.
He told me they did the seeds and radiation.
His dr thought that was his best option
I appreciate your words and will wait until my June apt for further ideas

I can’t tell by your signature .. what was your treatment of choice and how did it work out

I am 6 months post IMRT. 28 treatments 2.5 GY. 6 out 18 months ADT, Orgovyx complete. Grew boobs, some hot flashes and I workout and watch my diet to control weight gain. Sometimes uncontrollable laughter, but I had that SE before ADT. LOL. My GL-8 put me at high risk, therefore the 18 months of ADT. Your brother got a great treatment and hopefully he will find many days of remission. How am I doing? I am alive, just visited Disneyland with our grandkids, so I am doing great. You’re alive, you are also doing great. Keep us informed what comes about in June. My best to you and your brother.

Why didn’t you opt for removal ? Isnt that the best for advanced cases

My TURP procedure made surgery a hit or miss proposition. When a TURP is done the doc cuts away some of the prostate to alleviate the BPH and weak stream. I also had many other surgeries in the abdomen. The doc said, he could start the robotic surgery, but he might have to open me up if he couldn’t get all of the prostate. He also stated he would have to take at least one nerve that controls erections. Before you ask, the TURP also eliminated any seed implants due to cut up prostate. I chose IMRT because the RO doc himself had survived cancer and said that IMRT and ADT was my best bet to keep me in remission. Who knows, in the future my PC may require more treatments. Many here have been there and done that. I will not worry about that one bit as many have come before me and are still seeing the sun come up.

Ahh gotcha , I’m not trying to sound like I understand or even know anything about options .
I just hope if I do ever have to have a biopsy , they knock me out !

Actually, for advanced cases, removal aka surgery is probably a very bad choice, or at least not one of the best. It will only remove cancer in the prostate, if the cancer has escaped the capsule, you have a good chance of needing radiation anyway after surgery.

But, really, you are getting way ahead of yourself, as of right now, this moment, you do not have a diagnosed cancer and its possible you never will. Just focus on that while staying vigilant
