Even further: without written permission from "Henry", the doctor wouldn't even talk to "Frank" under HIPPA.

My wife and I also watched that episode, and like everyone else were amazed that some script writer thought this was even a possible scenario. We love the show, but the thought of a physician failing to inform a patient that he has cancer, of any type, is ridiculous....even if the patient's son is the police commissioner.

We're also amazed when the family sits down for their communal meal and says, "Bless us, O Lord, "for" these they gifts. That doesn't even make grammatical since. The prayer asks God to bless us "and" these thy gifts. I guess if these fictional "devout" Catholics don't know the meal blessing, they might also be dumb enough to think it's a good idea if no one tells "Pops" that he has prostate cancer.

I saw the KENTUCKY DERBY --- and never dreamed prostate cancer treatments would enter into the narrative --- with the racehorse named "CYBERKNIFE."

It brought some awareness to the topic. Advocacy for men's health takes many forms, and we need a bright light shining on that topic.

On BLUE BLOODS, veteran Broadway actor Len Cariou brings depth, grit, sagacity, and soul to his role of "Gramps" in the three-generation family saga. The show would not be the same without him.

I agree with the other posts written above --- it was a GRAND --- yet somehow MISSED --- opportunity to shine a stronger light on the topic of prostate cancer and an initial diagnosis.

Unfortunately, the plot got "mired in the quicksand" of his son striving to "protect" his elderly father from ever finding out the news of a prostate cancer diagnosis.

I feel this website has helped a lot of people, over time.

Each one of us who reads and posts here has helped the cause --- by shining a BRIGHT light on the topic of prostate cancer.

I think Cyclone nailed it: They had a great opportunity to actually teach the public something, and failed miserably.

They could have---(in no particular order of importance):
1. Said, "with a low grade diagnosis like this (insert G score an number of positive cores) and his age (insert), his chances of dying of it are pretty much nill, so we're not going to treat immediately. Instead we'll keep an eye on it over the next year or two and see what happens"
2. Then said, "Frank, when did YOU last have a PSA and DRE? And how about your sons? With Henry's positive results, the three of you are at higher risk"
3. Then maybe said something about both how prevalent it is, and how serious it CAN be.

I don’t watch much TV during the day, as I have much to do. However, the Bold and the Beautiful sounds like something my ADT SEs could get into. LOL. I agree with all that said much more could have been said after the DX on Blue Bloods. Also, how many times does Nellie need to get a reverse mortgage? Annoying doesn’t come close to hearing that commercial over and over.
