Zytiga /Abiraterone info

Congrats on getting your radiation done! As to Zytiga, my doc put me on it as part of my ADT back in 2013--that was very unusual at the time, but their practice believes in a full court press with more aggressive PCa. Interestingly, at my last appointment, my doctor told me that adding it is now the Standard of Care. I wish I had questioned him more about that because I still don't see a lot of guys here having it added to their ADT as a primary treatment, so I'm not fully sure if that statement was correct or he was just trying to say that it's becoming more common.

As to SEs, I had some liver inflammation from it and we ended up cutting the dosage in half and I was fine. I'd want to be monitored regularly if you are on it. Also, it's prescribed in conjunction with prednisone, so there are some steroid side effects and the need for a very slow taper down at the end.

In general, it wasn't a tough add to the ADT for me, so I'd listen to what your MO says and be open to it.

Michael, it is my plan to follow the direction of my team of docs. I feel I’m at a leading CC so they’re probably more in top of things than I am having just my WebMD degree. 😀 I was just surprised to see that come thru even before the consult.

I also received notice that my biopsy slides had been reviewed and I think this was the geonomic testing. (Discussed doing this with the RO but wasn’t aware he followed thru on it.) I can’t read any results at this point and likely wouldn’t understand it unless translated to layman lingo. But I’m questioning if perhaps it came back as a very aggressive PCa and this is the reason for the additional Med.

You will find it helpful and informative --- and remember to drink water before, in between, and after --- all your medication tablets. I never told them down in quick succession --- and that was a key lesson I learned one day!

I was my oncologist's first patient to go on ZYTIGA, years ago. It's still helping me today.

I have about 80 empty monthly prescription bottles lined up on a shelf --- to mark my progress on this medication -- which has helped me for nearly 7 years now.

I remember when I had 3 bottles on that shelf. I never dreamed I would fill that shelf with a line of empty bottles. # GRATITUDE!
