Your surgeon is happy and that is a great sign that the surgery was successful. Rest and recuperate, but walking always helps after surgery. My best to you.

AZ, blood in the bag is to be expected. Make sure you drink plenty of water to keep it flushed out. Like the others said, keep walking around. Don't try stairs until the catheter is out--tripping would be really, really bad news.

Thanks, Halbert. I'm actually having no problem getting up and walking, because sitting too long is most definitely uncomfortable! Walking around the house probably once every 20 - 25 minutes or so.

I drank a lot to keep plumbing flushed out and had to change the large bag in the middle of the night so knew I was drinking enough. Take it slow on coffee, etc. until your bladder settles down. Keep the fiber up with any supplements necessary to have easier visits to bathroom. You will feel better soon.

Woke up this morning, the day after surgery, and surprisingly feel great. No more blood in the urine. Got a reasonably good night's sleep. Pain has gone from noticeable to fairly minimal. Going from sitting to standing or vice-versa is no longer painful. The catheter isn't bothering me too much. Still taking ibuprofen and some Tramadol, but am going to back off of the Tramadol soon.

A couple of other notes from the procedure. The doctor said that nerve sparing was a definite, and that he didn't have to do any complicated work to get the urethra fixed up (he was concerned it might have been more complicated due to my TURP). I'm really happy with Dr. Ramakumar -- an outstanding RALP surgeon who's done over 2,000 of these and is genuinely a great person. Next step is the pathology on June 2nd, and the catheter will come out then.

Glad to hear surgery went well for you. Don’t do what I did which resulted in a nasty hernia a few weeks after my surgery — don’t lift anything heavy for a long while….

AZ I had the same issue, after 4-5 days nothing. So i asked Mrs Pratoman to make a trip out for Prune Juice.
One 8 ounce glass, half hour later it was bombs away.
Just something to consider if by the time you read this you haven't had any action.

Mrs. Roadrunner just fixed me a version of the brown bomb -- about 8 oz of prune juice and a tablespoon of butter -- warmed up. Drank it all down and hoping for the best.
