Official Rant Thread - Go for It

I have a Medicare ppo United healthcare and I added a second primary care organization that offers almost instant primary care. It's two hundred dollars a year but seems worth it. Only drawback is specialist care. One has to still use specialists which can be a wait.
They have great offices and are seen right away. They do blood draws onsite and will cover most of your prescription needs.
I'm going to ask for a colonoscopy order since it's been close to 20 years since I had one.
Just a FYI I'm not sure if I can name them so I will not.
They are national but mostly bigger cities.

Tom, I hear you. My rant is we actually saw clouds this last week in Tucson. I walked outside to look at them, only to be beaten back inside by the excessive heat and the onset of a huge heat flash. I was working on the pool two days ago, bent over and lost my balance. I was so hot I just went ahead and somersaulted into the pool. I was told not to swim after cataract surgery, but falling into a pool doesn’t count when your old, IMO. ☀️🥵🏊‍♂️

Here in eastern KS we are starting up to two weeks of mid to upper 90s, with high humidity.
My sweet wife went out this morning and cut half the yard for me. That is, the half that needed it.

No breezes today, just hot and muggy!

This rant has been 31 years in the making. When we moved to Montana those many decades ago, my family went on the health insurance program through my employer. The employer paid for me and I paid for the family. When we signed up, the employer and/or the insurance people insisted that my wife have the same surname as me. She doesn’t but this was such a foreign concept that they appended my surname to hers anyway. Efforts made to rectify this were unsuccessful and we just gave up even though it always creates some kind of issue when she has medical care.

She is having a procedure on her back next month and the hospital called today to say the insurance has rejected the authorization because no one with that name is on their list. This took some effort to sort out but it finally was.

Is this something unique to Montana?

Where we lived before it was never an issue. When we moved here and put our kids in school we filled out the paperwork work and listed both of us as the parents. The clerk wanted to know which of us was the “custodial parent.” Heck, I wasn’t even familiar with the term so I asked and she said that since we were divorced that only one of us could be listed as the custodial parent. I told her that we were not divorced and she said that couldn’t be since we had different last names. We informed her that my wife simply did not change her name when we got married. The clerk didn’t understand how/why someone would do that but said she would send the paperwork through. We never heard anything else about it.

A few years later, we were going to do some international traveling and needed passports. I said I’d go down there first and figure it out. I went to the post office, which is where the passport clerk was, taking along my birth certificate, etc. and filled out all the paperwork and had my photo taken. The clerk reviewed the paperwork, said it looked fine and that she’d submit it. A few week later I had my passport. Then my wife goes down there, takes her documents with her, fills out the paperwork, and gives it to the clerk for review. The clerk said that she’d need to see a copy of our marriage license and/or divorce papers since we had different last names. My wife came home and asked if I had to submit that stuff and when I said “no” she marched down there and asked the clerk why the women would have to provide that stuff but not a man. The clerk didn’t have a good answer for that and ended up submitting the paperwork without those extra papers and the passport arrived a few weeks later.

Is this just provincials harassing people for not following “tradition?”

Very similar situation here. When we got married, somehow she had to write First S. Last name. The Last name was our last name. But the "S" was her maiden name initial. Soon after, she changed "everything" to her true middle name initial, "A." In August, we will celebrate 47 years of marriage.

Recently she was referred to a dermatologist. First appointment, they gave her paperwork with First S. Last name already entered. This shows up every few years. So far, no pushback from insurance. But it's annoying. It's also kind of humorous/chuckle-worth ... SO FAR! Your post points out how it can get much MORE than annoying!
