As to whether the music of yesteryear (especially rock-n-roll, including its later morphing into more recent forms of rock) is better than the modern stuff being played these days, I can offer as witnesses a group of folks who definitely agree that it is.
Namely, large numbers of younger people themselves!
If you would like to have some fun, do what I do sometimes:
1. Choose one of the great old time rock-and-roll songs.
2. Go to Youtube, search, find, and display a version of it, ready to play.
3. Once displayed, listen to the version of it, if you like, but certainly do this:
4. Page down to the "Comments" section below the video display and read the comments that people (of all ages) have left about
the song.
There's going to be a pretty good chance that there will be a number of very positive comments by people who are obviously younger (obvious from the way they describe themselves), and who think the song is great!
An example:
"True Love Ways" by Buddy Holly:

"Absolutely amazing song. My late mom’s favorite and it’s beauty rubbed off on me. Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Perfection."
"Was at a wedding reception recently, and this was the first song played, at the bride and groom's request. First time, EVER, EVER that EVERYONE was dancing AT THE FIRST SONG! Will never forget it, and they are a super sweet couple, who obviously know great music."
"I love Buddy Holly, I grew up with his songs even though I was born in the 70's. Such a special man, so sorry his life was cut so short. Brenda."
"This was played at my grandad's funeral today and now know this will be my new safe space for when I'm upset and/or missing him."
"My husband and I danced to this song at our wedding in 2017. My dad gave me a Buddy Holly CD when I was 10 and I knew I always wanted to dance to this song with my true love at my wedding. Love you Buddy!"and the like.
I guarantee you'll find similar sentiments from younger people expressed as comments on any number of other sites playing the the great pop songs from the past, from the 50's on..
That's because
everyone, regardless of age, just instinctively recognizes great music, regardless of when it was written!
