OT--Music taste or are we just getting OLD

I probably had a dozen more playlists in mind, but I got tired and quit after the above. Each playlist took about 90 minutes to create, including googling "songs of xxx" so I didn't miss any, then figuring out who I liked (sometimes playing parts of songs where the names escaped me).

I already have more than I'll ever need. I play 1 or 2 playlists at lunch.

Sometimes I think I do not like nowadays music in the same way older people did not like r&r, r&b and pop music of the sixties. But most of the time I think popular music now is at the lowest level by any standard. I mean, it is the lack of originality and innovation and the abuse of technological gadgets what makes the genres you mention (by the way do not forget reggaeton) to be simply junk. As an older adult, I was able to enjoy music of the 90th, even I had some appreciation of the best electronic music or the clever introduction of rap fragments in some songs. But about 2010-2015 commercial music made a definitive turn to the worse. I guess it is paralel to the lack of imagination in new Hollywood movies, infinite sequels of super Hero sagas full of amazing digital technology but with childish dialogues and plots. I guess the effort to add more and more technology to color commercial artistic creations plus the laziness to think about something really new, have ironically created a gray era. Maybe it is more related with the generalized belief that any garbage that gives money is not garbage but a great idea. And from the consumers side, the increasing idea that the important think about music and movies is not their content but what you do while consuming it (like dancing in an hypnotic way or eating tons of popcorns).

With the Autotune software they use today, being on pitch is no longer a requirement. It’s akin to what Photoshop has done with photography.
