48 hours ago I was packed and ready to load my car and relocate from my Mobile Home to my brothers house three miles away. We both live in Largo, Fl.... that is 20 miles SW of Tampa.
The one big lesson I learned this week -> If "Jim Cantore" is in town - RUN!
I'm just up the road in Safety Harbor, and went to bed Tuesday night expecting the storm to hit us head on the next day, with 10' storm surge and flooding. Instead we woke up Wednesday - the day of the storm, to learn that it had changed course and would make landfall about
an hour south of Tampa Bay.
I feel sorry not only for those who live in its path, but also for the thousands of locals who heeded the warnings and evacuated inland to the northeast to Orlando, which was then hit with historic and totally unexpected fresh water flooding from getting 18" of rain in six hours.
Our power was out just fourteen hours, much better than the three day outage we had during Irma, which was when I was halfway thru my eight weeks of adjuvant EBRT. Also the post storm weather has been pleasant this time, unlike the 90's we experienced with Irma.
I remember hearing our favorite weatherman, "the suspenders guy". saying "it's always good news when you hear that Jim Cantore has left town".
