I am new to this forum, but have been stalking it now for a few days. Had a RP 14 years ago. Next had a sling which worked pretty good until the cancer came back. After radiation 4 years ago I have continued to leak more and more. I am now doing less of my favorite activities and trying to talk myself into this next step, but very nervous. What is the success rate among this group. Is everyone pleased. Need help.

I had it installed a year after my RALP. I’ve had it for 3-1/2 years. If it failed, I’d go though the procedure again.

Welcome to HW, Cutbank. While you are waiting for responses, you can always put AMS in the search box in the upper right corner and look at previous responses. There is likely a good history of this question in the reserves.

DH had the AMS 800 installed 8 1/2 years ago. It was life changing surgery. While he has some leakage now when he is very active, his urologist feels like a revision is not wise now- PSA is very high, just failed chemo and started Pluvicto. Overall, the AUS is still effective.

Thanks for the responses. I have a new attitude going into the new year, and now plan to move forward with an AUS. Looking forward to getting back to many activities. Anyone have suggestions or comments about Duke Hospital?

I can’t answer your question about Duke but when I decided on RALP I found a 3-hour video of the procedure and after watching it, due to my lack of confidence in my local establishment to properly handle anything that complicated, I went to Cleveland Clinic to have the job done. A year later when I elected to have the AUS installed, I watched a video on that and decided to have my local urologist do it as it really didn’t look that complicated.

There is a FaceBook group for these. The satisfaction with the procedure seems to vary greatly. I am having surgery for the AMS in 10 days at Cleveland Clinic. My local Uro agrees with that decision because they do a lot of AMS vs locally.
