Not to mention another common false drop.
Often when I am searching using "cancer" as a term, I get useless hits showing up about "cancer" the zodiac sign, or "cancer" and horoscopes.
Especially amusing is when an ad appears on a sidebar inviting me to come to a site where, for a modest fee, Madame X will compile my horoscope for me, assuring me of love and fortune!
I know there's a way to restrict searches, to exclude certain words, which might help get rid of lots of such unwanted hits. I believe it used to be in the form of something like
cancer NOT zodiac NOT horoscope
but I also seem to remember that it has been changed to using a minus sign (-) in front of the unwanted terms, such as
cancer -zodiac -horoscope
which gets "cancer" hits, but leaves out those with "zodiac" or "horoscope" in them.
But I'm not sure if that's right, because I played around with the immediately above string, but couldn't get it to work in Google or Bing for some reason. I must be doing something wrong.
(If any of you IT guys can post and explain just how to do it, that would be a really handy thing to know, how to restrict getting unwanted terms BEFORE doing the search!)
